just another ramen place.had too high of an expectation recommended by friends about the ox tail ramen. it is good. but i like santouka style better. look at the bill before you pay, they automaticlly include 15% gratuity.
If you are fan of authentic ramen or just want to see what true Japanese ramen is besides the ramen packets, this is your place to go! Ramen Nakamura was for sure one of our favorite places to come and we will definitely be returning whenever we return to Oahu! Because of their care of making the broth, preparing the dishes, and the small restaurant, it is normal to see a long line outside. But with that said, it is certainly worth it! We were immediately welcomed by the staff. The waitress who took our order and attended us during our visit there was extremely nice, attentive, and continuously went back to the kitchen to make sure the orders were being prepared (despite juggling 14+ patrons in the restaurant by herself)! And to top the stellar service, the food was even better! My husband and I ordered the infamous Ox-Tail Ramen and the Hakata Ramen Combo (essentially Tonkatsu flavored). Both were absolutely delicious! I actually preferred the Hakata ramen more, especially since you can taste the emulsified flavor of pork in the broth; it was also rich and coated my palette excellently, a great sign of pain-staking, attentive care of creating the broth when making it for ramen noodles. The noodles were thick, springy, and absorb the flavor nicely without being mushy, and the condiments they added paired nicely with both our meals. The ramen combo came with a cup of fried rice and some gyoza. The gyoza was definitely worth it, but I’ve tasted much better fried rice elsewhere. The ramen was also appropriately priced (in my opinion). As stated before, we will definitely return to Ramen Nakamura in the future! Tip #1: This establishment accepts cash OR Japanese yen only.Tip #2: Order the gyoza with your ramen meal. It’s definitely worth it!Tip #3: For the ox-tail ramen, if you prefer it to have more of a spicy or sweeter embodiment, definitely utilize their sauces in front of you! My husband tends to like spicy-sweet in his noodle soups, and after he doctored it up, the ox-tail ramen was the bomb.com!
Loved this place! Cheap and delicious ramen. So good we went back twice. Tried the miso ramen, the veggie ramen, tomato ramen and my favorite the oxtail ramen. All were great! Make sure you bring cash as cards are not accepted. And there are only 22 seats so be prepared to wait when it is busy. Only one lady working the counter but she is quick and efficient.
Really enjoyed the Spicy Ramen, Fried Noodles and Gyoza. Very fast service, excellent portions, really great place to eat when visiting Honolulu/Waikiki. Only two downsides: They only accept cash (ATM across the street) and they don’t serve beer.
Spicy Ramen. Fried garlic for daaaays02 Sep, 2014Ox tail ramen. Great, simple broth
There’s a line out the door for a reason! Best gyoza I’ve ever had, and the oxtail ramen was delicious. Tiny restaurant with counter seating only, maybe 25 seats total.
