I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant however I must admit that the food here is just average not amazing. They have a lot of music memorabilia on display.Had the fried chicken wings as well as the hot dog with pork. But their milk shakes are to die for. Nice to check out as a tourist as the service was great. There is no table service so you order at the counter and the food is served to you.
Diner Ceiling Art. Worst restaurant ever do not try>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Mistake!!. We visited Rock Island twice. The first time was when we first arrived in Waikiki as we were just scoping out the local food scene, The owner was very chatty and polite at the time and we said we would come back to eat while we were in Waikiki. Well, we did go back, BIG MISTAKE!! The owner totally ignored us when we walked in so we just sat at a table, ordered a couple of drinks then proceeded to be constantly pressured by the waitress to order food, It seemed we just weren’t allowed to sit and enjoy a drink while we decided on what to order. In the end I ordered a burger and fries just to get her off our backs! When the burger eventually came out, it was swimming in some sort of liquid, Yuk! After about 15 mins, the owner came over and bluntly asked if we would be ordering ice cream. When I replied no, the unfinished basket of fries I was still eating was whipped away and the check was thrown on the table (we didn’t even ask for it) by the owner, who didn’t even bother to ask if everything was ok, as he turned his back and walked away. We will be going back to Waikiki soon but we will give Rock Island a wide berth and we have told everyone we know who is going to Hawaii to do the same!!
Only time in Hawaii we felt ripped off. Very expensive for this type of place. Service was mediocre. Best thing about it was the retro decor.
Don’t bother. On a whim we stopped in for lunch at about 2pm. It was only us and one other table but it still took ten minutes for someone to take our order and then 20 more minutes to get our food. That would have been fine if the food was good but it was mediocre at best. My pork sandwich tasted like the meat was out of a can, my coke was flat, and my wife’s pizza looked like a frozen pizza with a couple veggies thrown on top. My daughter liked her burger, so I’ll give them credit for that. Price was on par with everything else in the area, so unless you really have a fetish for Elvis memorabilia, don’t bother.
Didn’t Rock. Checked out the Diner’s extensive 50’s decor and memorabilia collection – mostly for sale. Lots of cute stuff to see and I really liked that about it. After a too long wait for my sandwich (which did not come with fries and cost over $10.00) I cancelled my order and left. Why spend over $20.00, with tip, for some ordinary food that would be $1.50 total in 1955. Plus, the waitstaff looked kind of tired and had a weirdly depressed vibe.Burger King is next door, if all you want is a quick lunch.
Not impressive. They have a novel idea, l
