After perusing the Ala Moana area, we decided to stop by Mikawon for dinner since it was so close to our hotel. The establishment is on a side street and is very easy to miss (I would have had a picture of the entrance, but it was too dark to really take). The inside is small, but I love the ‘wallpaper’ decorated with tons of drawings, signatures, and statements from visitors across the world. It really gave the place a homey feeling. Unfortunately, it sort of went downhill from there. I do not know if it was because we came 2 hours before closing, but the server – while friendly – was very quick to take our order and only visited us twice after that (once to give us our food and the last time was our check). At Mikawon, we ordered their version of Bi-Bim-Bap and Kalbi Beef. We were expecting to be able to utilize the grill, but ended up being served in Yakiniku style – which was not bad, but for paying so much for it, and being told it was going to be on the grill – it kind of was a disappointment. And the server never bothered to come to us, so we could not voice our concerns, so we decided to just go ahead and eat. I will say, the Bi-Bim-Bap tasted burnt and without flavor (even with drizzling their Korean sauce all over it), and the beef was bland. The only things that really tasted decent were the small side dishes that is served with the meals. So to be honest, with everything taken into account, we will not be back again and will more than likely try another Korean restaurant in the area.

Amazing Authentic Korean Food. This restaurant is by far the best most flavourful authetic Korean restaurant in Waikiki that I have been to so far. They have a variety of things on their menu that I have never even seen before. It’s one of those hidden gems that you need to find. Everything that we ordered was so flavourful! I came here twice while I was in Waikiki for my honeymoon. Would definitely come back!
If you are looking for a true to korea experience, then this is the place for you. the best Korean food downtown Honolulu has to offer. I gladly go out of my way to come eat here. reasonably priced food with excellent service make this place one to come back to again and again. i recommend the spicy bulgolgi! 5 out of 5 spoons.
