Raves for sushi-crazy. I went to Kintaro’s after some local’s raved about it-Doug (see review)belowis right…the chef was arrogant and down right rude- and the sushi that Ithought would be great was so plain (and very expensive) I would not go back there if you paid me!!! Probably the worst dining experience I’ve everhad- if you are not a local, don’t go there, clearly they do not want tourist’smoney…

If you hale from the west coast where amazing sushi is at your fingertips, you will not be impressed by this place. Sure, the tin foil special was delicious (baked seafood w mayo) but the actual sushi wasn’t pretty nor delicious. And I wanted to like this after hearing locals rave about it too!
This place is jumping… From the front desk reservations to the bar to the service to the food … Everything was right on point. This place is a lot different than when I visited three years ago … I’m a happy diner 🙂
EXCELLENT. Went last night with 4 foodies and one future foodie(my granddaughter who is 2 1/2) The food as excellent- tasty preparations, the service was pompt and warm and welcoming. We all kept remarking this restaurant does not have to do things this well given many people will eat here anyway and yet kintaro’s takes pride in eveything they do and offer. Will be back. Had the fresh fish and scallop dinner- great mahi-mahi and the freshet scallops.. also ate the sashimi and tempura dinner-alsowell prepared with generous portions and a lightly soba salad. A new item on the menu was fresh sea-weed salad– made with Wakame instead of the traditional hijiki- we alloved the seasoning and freshness.. The miso soup has a richer broth than most and we loved it. Our granddaughter enjoyed her chicken skewers(Yakitori). Could go on but the day is beckoning
Kintaros Rocks. Yes, make a reservation! Locals like myself know this….the good ‘old days of walking in to K’s and getting seated right away are gone! And the reason is because the restaurant is GREAT! Outstanding food, ALWAYS fresh sushi – the tradional and the innovative and of couse Aloha Spirit service…. It is the choice of many locals for celebratory nights out! Why some reviews were negative is beyond me…I have no doubt if anything about your meal was less than outstanding…Kintaro’s would make it right….like I said there is a reason there is a wait for walk-in diners!!!! THE SUSHI ROCKS! Oh, if u r worried about a.c. Just bring a sweater! Jeesh. Go and enjoy and please show aloha to ur server…that’s the Kauai way! Mahalo and Aloha,
