Fresh, authentic and delicious! A must-do on the East shore.
Fantastic Indian food Shivalik under the new management. Shivalik Indian restaurant in Kapaa on Kauai has changed so much recently under new management. I used to not like it at all. Now the food is fantastic. Wednesday night buffet is magnificent.I expect to see lines of people waiting outside the door on future Wednesdays, but now you can still get a seat. It is a gem I recommend it to locals and tourists. One of the best eateries on Kauai. Very casual.
Excellent !!!!. They helped us in making custom order : Spicy Peas pulav.. Food was good.. Prices were nominal !! After noon thali, Wednesday night buffet and Al Carte were are great
Outstanding Northern Indian Cuisine!. Having lived in London for more than a decade, I am both informed and unapologetically picky about Indian dishes. In less polite terms…call me a harsh critic. Most people assume that ‘Indian food’ is the predominant style of spice combinations that is exported from one of the four southern states. But this reflects North American ethnocentrism. In fact, EACH of the 28 Indian states has its own version of familiar dishes. And the northern states have their own broad regional style despite state-to-state differences. Northern cuisine, however authentic, may well taste ‘off’ or ‘average’ to someone who is used to and/or expecting Southern-style dishes. The bottom line is that Shivalik Indian Cuisine is the real deal for those who appreciate Northern-style cuisine. (For example, the spinach and small potatoes will have the tang of cumin and coriander rather than the sweetness of ginger and mustard seed. And the tiny potatoes will be skinned yet whole rather than quartered.)The Curries, Soups, Veggies, Lamb, Chicken, Naan, Wednesday Night Buffett are all absolutely superb. I visit this great eatery at least once a week. Am working my way through a great menu–dish by dish. Cocunut milk is used instead of cream to create dairy-free cuisine. Also, virtually the entire place is gluten-free (except bread & fried vegetables).Polite, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended!
The food was fantastic; the best I’ve had since I lived in Asia.
Very Good!. We met a waitress that works there and she encouraged us try it. We had never had Indian Cuisine before. We loved it! We had the buffet which was great because we could try all kinds of dishes. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. If I lived in Kauai, I would be a regular at this little restaurant. The food is fantastic, and the service was very good and friendly.
Best kept secret on Kauai. My husband and I happened upon this gem after we had finished picking up few groceries on our first night in Kauai. We were not expecting much as the restaurant is located in a strip mall. How wrong we were! The food was fantastic! Absolutely delicious Indian food, reasonably priced, excellent portions, and most important, not swimming in grease. As much as I love Indian food, I often find it heavy and greasy and leave feeling uncomfortably full and tired no matter how much or little I eat! Not here. The food was flavorful but light and one entree plus a rice and naan was more than enough for both of us. The restaurant seems new and as though they are not quite done decorating; it is a little spartan right now which does not add to the ambiance. But don’t be fooled – the food more than makes up for any short comings in decor. Besides, do you go to a restaurant to eat or admire the walls 😉
