Ready within 20 min.Well, it’s never easy to find authentic Chinese/Cantonese food in the US, outside of the large metropolitan areas. Often, it’s not that the food is bad; in fact, it’s often quite edible, with fresh ingredients — it just isn’t quite authentic.And so it was with New Hong Kong in Idaho Falls. The portions were large, the veggies, seafood and meat were fresh and the dishes came piping hot, but all three main dishes (moo shoo gai pan, shrimp with pea pods, and sizzling beef) all looked and tasted almost the same, in a clear, slightly thick sauce, with the same vegetables in them.The appetisers we chose included the twice-cooked pork (char siew) which, well, wasn’t quite what we would get in Chinese restaurants in areas more heavily populated by Chinese people. Char siew is a barbecued pork and usually has a crispy skin basted with a sweetish barbecue sauce.The spring rolls were quite all right, though. It’s hard to make those badly. 🙂 The filling was fresh tasting, and the skin was deep fried well.
