The beer was ok but nothing special. The food was not good and over cooked. I went with three other people, we each had something different and nobody enjoyed their meals. The service was not great either. I won’t be going back.
Organic and tasty salads: We stopped in for a light lunch, the greens are fresh and plentiful, the dressings very tasty and the optional chicken we added was very tender. Recommended for the food. The service wasn’t immediately friendly nor were the outside tables wiped off ten minutes after opening. But given how good the food was we’ll drop in here again when passing through.
Great craft beer and great food! Pork tenderloin special was outstanding. I had Honey Basil, Fallen DIPA, and Salted Caramel Stout beers. All were excellent. If you like beer, you need to definitely give this place a try!
Cloud 9 Needs To Hire Additional Waitstaff In A Very Bad Way. After 3 visits to Cloud 9, I am starting to see some themes. The first and most prominent is the weak service. The waitstaff is grossly under-staffed. When the waitress is giving us a rag to clean or own tables, water glasses sit empty, and we sit at the table for 10 minutes before getting attention, something is wrong. I sat at the bar one of the three visits and was well attended to by the bartender. While sitting at the tables, however, I really wished I had ordered two beers. It really does take that long to get not only what you ordered, but someone to take that order. The waitstaff is pleasant but the service is one star worthy. The food is the second theme and is a much more positive experience, although slow also. This place has the second best fish n’ chips in town! I would not hesitate to order it again. The tacos were okay as was the quinoa, black bean salad. The kale salad was nice, although they were out on one occasion. They have different dinner specials and the chicken sandwich I ordered one day was good. The food gets four stars! The beer is the primary theme but not that remarkable. I am more likely to go to Cloud 9 for the food and avoid it for the service. The beer is unique and creative. The beer is good! However, the brewing has an amateur flair to it that sometimes results in the beer being flat and at other times, far too sweet, far too hoppy, far too citrus flavored, or far too much of something. Visit Cloud 9 if you are in the area, but expect service to be slow if you are sitting anywhere other than the actual concrete molded bar. Have some food and you likely will be satisfied. Have a beer and you are not likely to be disappointed, but you won’t feel like you are on Cloud 9.
Cloud 9 is Idaho’s first organic brewery with a focus on local, sustainable produce. The menu has a myriad of options for those with special diets (vegetarian, vegan, & gluten-free) The buns are fresh from Gaston’s bakery in Boise. The grass fed organic beef is from Homestead in Middleton. The produce is from Idahos Bounty which is a collective of local farms and purveyors. Regarding the beer. It is phenomenal, the brewers are not afraid to try new and interesting things. Blood Orange Wit, Honey Basil, Salted Caramel Stout.Anyone who is a regular beer drinker knows that 100 IBU is on the low end for Double IPAs.
Honest Review. I decided to try Cloud 9 for lunch. I started with a Double IPA, it was a very bitter ipa at over 100 on IBU. It seemed a bit one note compared to some of the other local strong IPA’s. I had the burger with salad. The bun was very dense and tasted like it had been previously frozen. The burger patty was very dense and dry, reminiscent of a frozen turkey burger. The patty really had no flavor other than char. It was topped with tomatoes, pickles and limp lettuce. My side salad had Blue Cheese dressing, which was rather tasty. The salad consisted of spring mix lettuce that appeared to be from a standard rectangular clear plastic container from any grocery store. The other entrees at the table were not impressive either. The entree portion of the Kale Caesar was very small, requiring a stop for a burger on the way back. The Mac and Cheese was over cooked. The macaroni noodles had begun to turn to mush. The cheese flavor was over powered by the onions used in the sauce.
