One of my favorite places :). I love the Highlands Hollow and have been coming since I moved to Boise 7 years ago. I always get the spicy steak salad or the meatball sub and both are always delicious. I also love their french fries, and the restaurant its self has a comfortable homey atmosphere. My only gripe is sometimes it gets a bit crowded with ball shaver and skier types, so I just avoid coming on the weekends.
Best ceasar salad in town! Melt in your mouth croutons and amazing beer bread!
Great!. Love the beers here but the Fieg is the best in my opinion. Huge fan of the food too. For a place that launched Sockeye and now O’Michaels(original owner) I think they are great. The halibut is always solid and the pepper steak on soba noodles is great when I can sub the green peppers with jalapenos! The Mess O’ Chops is one of the best comfort meals in town and the clams are slightly behind the Dutch Goose for best in town.
Not the best…. I want to like Highlands Hollow, and it’s ok I guess… I’ve had some decent beer here, especially featured beers. Mostly I found the food lackluster and the service distant or forgetful at best. I wish it were a better neighborhood beer bar.
One more Fieg, please. Consistently excellent. Fieg is the best.
Sitting here in my booth, big fat and happy. The smokehouse burger is delicious !!! The rueben is also great. Neat assortment of sauces for the food. Handcrafted ale is also excellent. You can’t beat this place.
Hit and Miss. Highlands has some stellar fries and a great little basked of condiments to accompany said fries. The beer, though not brewed on site any longer, is decent at best. While Highlands does try to give a bit of creativity to their craft beers, I have found them to be stale at times, and often almost flat when poured. Often the seasonal is the best beer in the house as it seems to be the freshest, but even then the flavours can be a bit muddled. I find that the food can be great one day and borderline the next. I can’t say that the food is prepared by the same cook on the off days as it is on the good. Service and atmosphere are about the same. Laid back ski haus style. Sometimes your server is on the ball and you’re in and out promptly, others you’ll be waiting for your bill for over a half hour as you can’t seem to locate your server. Billed as a brew house I would say that Highlands pretty much fails. Granted, there isn’t a true brew house experience in the Boise area, but at least some of the others do their brewing on site.
