DV from Boise. I can’t say that I don’t like it, because service was good and some of the food was good, but do NOT order the Kale Caeser! That was awful. Clumps of kale that had not been softened with thick, out-of-the-bottle-tasting dressing. It was horrible. Someone in the kitchen really put very little effort into that one.
Not a great experience.. I love the oatmeal souffl and cheddar hash. I order them everytime. This go round it was burnt and tasted horrible. I sent it back and was told as the re-do was delivered that the top has to be burnt for the inside to be done. SERIOUSLY? AND BS souffl does not have to be burnt. It was not edible. The cheddar hash was undercooked and lacking cheddar. I made a reservation well in advance and my party of 3 was smashed into a table for 2 that barely had room to hold out drinks let alone the food. I actually had to get up and move my seat so someone could get by to leave the restaurant. My all time fave breakfast place is now a place I will have to think hard about going to again.
Bittercreek. My husband’s pesto chicken sandwich was excellent. The homemade ketchup is also so good, it makes eating fries worth blowing your calorie allowance for the day! But, when the service is bad, it doesn’t matter how good the food is. I went in with my husband for lunch on Valentine’s Day. It was just after 1pm and the place was not busy, and neither was our waitress in any shape or form. I ordered the fried chicken, cole slaw and hush puppies that they called croquettes with potatoes and cheese. The chicken was way overcooked, the coleslaw was cabbage with spicy brown mustard and way too much of it, and the croquettes came with a smokey load of bacon of which was not noted in the menu. Why is everything made with bacon now!? I don’t eat red meat or pork, and it wasnt noted on the menu so I wanted to ask our serverabout it…so after I waited and waited and waited, I finally got her attention and asked her if it was indeed bacon and she confirmed. She also confirmed it was on the menu- the menu I had in front of me online on my phone and it did not show bacon! Then she walked off, guilt free with her little white lie seemingly pulled off right past the guy that dropped his fork on the ground several minutes prior. She didn’t bother to check on him during his meal either. Typically the food is really good, but poor service can really push any meal south.
Bitter Creek is NOT gluten free friendly. If you search for gluten free friendly restaurants in Boise this place comes up, it probably should not. I have been here for dinner, so maybe brunch is better, but the dinner service was definitely not gluten free friendly. I usually feel more comfortable at locally sourced restaurants like the Red Feather because I feel like they know what is in their food. I did not feel this way at Red Feather. The waiter was polite (unlike at their sister restaurant Bitter Creek), but seemed very uncomfortable with the fact that I was requesting gluten free. I asked him to recommend something and he recommended the carrots. Just the carrots. I have a very hard time believing that there were not other items on the menu that could be altered, but we were sitting upstairs and he did not seem to want to go down to the kitchen and ask the chef. I am giving this more than one star because my friends meals looked amazing, but there are few things worse than going to a nice restaurant and having waiter act like I am inconveniencing him by asking for gluten free. (I am not gluten free by choice; I have Celiac Disease).
Gave it a second try…. For breakfast Saturday June 22. I had the green eggs and ham (parmesan scrambled eggs and smoked ham) with the vegetable hash and black tea. The eggs and ham were delicious, as was the hash and tea. My friend had 3 scrambled eggs and the cheesy hash browns. The egg portion was larger this time and the hash browns were very good. All in all, a much better experience than our first meal, so we’ll continue to stop in when down at the Saturday Market.20 Jun, 2013Very disappointing food. We ate breakfast at RFL June 8. The new menu seems quite stripped down; not a lot of choices. The salmon breakfast flatbread was more bread than toppings, and the toppings were very hit and miss; some parts had a lot, some had very little to none and I left about half of the flatbread on my plate because there was nothing on it. My friend ordered 3 eggs and the vegetable hash. The egg portion was very small and looked like it was maybe 1 or 1 1/2 eggs, not 3. He did like the vegetable hash. For me, the best part of the meal was the teapot that my tea was served in. An acquaintance told me he and his wife had dinner there about a week ago and were also disappointed in the menu and food. In fact, they wanted to move next door to Bittercreek but it was full. Having eaten at Red Feather many times before, I was very disappointed this visit and felt the meal was not worth the price I paid.
This place was awful. We got the lamb burger, fish nd chips and Bloody Mary. Nothing was really that edible. We’re salad had so much water in it it left a puddle on the plate. The burgers had zero flavor. Our waitress was decent enough, but I’ll not ever be back here.
Terrible seating. Pretentious menu compared to the food.
