I’ll admit: I’ve only been to the Modern when they were extremely busy, so maybe my experience is based on that, but I think this place is just so-so. Sure, the atmosphere and drinks are trendy and you feel like you’re one of the Boise hipster crowd when you’re in this place, but the bartenders have always been rude, as if they’re doing me a favor by getting me one of their overpriced drinks. If you’re into the trendy scene, you’ll probably like this place, but I’d rather eat/drink at a place where the prices match the quality.
The food at the Modern Bar is constantly changing but with each new version of the menu there’s something exciting and unique to try. At this point, I have to say the food alone makes this one of the very best places to eat in Boise. The menu is small, but the ingredients are always fresh and are mostly sourced locally so whatever you order you know it’s going to be delicious. The wine and beer list is small but incredibly well selected with some great options at all times. However, the cocktails take this place to a whole new level. Michael and the other bartenders handcraft drinks using fresh juices, fruits and herbs. If you don’t happen to like anything on the cocktail list for that day, name a spirit or drink you like and they’ll create something just for you. The Modern is an oasis in the Treasure Valley and a real jewel, keep up the great work!
