The first time my wife and I ate here we were pretty impressed. On our second visit we decided we would not be back. The waitress was very abrasive. When asked how fresh the coffee was, she got very defensive. The service here is excruciatingly slow. The sign on their window is cute and all and would be appreciated if they weren’t so ridiculously slow. It seems like a good excuse to be slower than molasses. Not everyone has an hour or more to kill for a simple plate of eggs, hash browns, toast and coffee. There is a happy medium between a fast food joint and this place. Hopefully they can find this happy medium and not use the sign on the window as a crutch to take as long as they do. Old time cafes used to be fairly speedy. If someone wants to sit at the counter and nurse their coffee with a newspaper all morning long that is their choice. You should not expect everyone else to want to stay all day. The bygone era that I remember was that the diner or cafe had speedy service and it was up to the customer to decide how long they wanted to stay. The waitress was so busy chatting up the guy at the counter who as far as we could tell was there to drink as many pots of coffee as he could for the price of a cup that when our order was up, it sat in the window for 5 minutes unnoticed. Naturally when it arrived, it was lukewarm. We would’ve sent it back but they had already wasted too much of our time.Sorry if it seems harsh that I think the couple that spends $20 should get a little more service than the guy who spends $1.50Hopefully the guy our waitress was flirting with while our food died in the window tipped better than we did.
Hard to get past the old dirty cluttered restaurant. I live in Pocatello and drive by Oliver’s daily but have never stopped for a meal. Yesterday while with a friend we decided to stop in for lunch. First–the good: Very friendly servers–after that it goes down hill. Okay, it’s a diner not fine dining. The menu is so big I can’t imagine anything is made fresh but who knows. Our meals were just okay. My biggest problem is with the condition of the restaurant. So old, tired and sorry, but DIRTY. The restrooms do not have a hook on the doors to hang a purse, so my purse went on the floor and OMG the floors were so dirty! Not like it needs a sweep and mop more like has anyone cleaned the corners are baseboards this year? It took awhile to get our lunch–not sure if that is the norm. Good thing I was not in a hurry. I really think this restaurant could be a gem if they cleaned it up and took about half the items off the menu and concentrated on doing less better. Just my thoughts.
Depends. Love the food at Oliver’s. I am a sucker for Eggs Oliver. I am a regular for that but also love the many selections on the menu. Be very careful if you are in a hurry, the wait staff can be very unorganized. Two caveats, bacon is overdone and if you ask for it otherwise you will confuse your server (you want it limpy? No, just not burnt.) and never, ever order fresh juice, they will even try to talk you out of it. Just take it off the menu.
Wow The Prime Rib. Wow this is a kinda small town kinda feel. Wow really nice people. We happened in when traveling through a couple weeks ago and then again tonight. Wow is their Prime Rib great. Then tonight I also got a Taco Omelet Wow that had a great flavor. Wow really great price. Really great people.
Losing it’s Touch. I used to love coming here with my family for some good old fashioned home town style customer service and fresh food…. Which is why my last visit to Pocatello drew me back in. I was not as happy with the lower quality of food but am still loving all the vegetarian options.
Boo… Typical greasy spoon, I’ve never had good service there.
Consistantly good breakfast. This is just a good old fashioned diner, classic americana. The various dishes served for breakfast did not disappoint, our party was very happy with the food and service. The times I’ve gone here solo, same story. Quality food at a veryreasonable price point. Some folks will eat anywhere, andeat any old slop if it’s cheap. This is not that kind of place.I know the reason the parking lot is packed on the weekends for breakfast – Oliver’s is pretty good.
