I LOVE Sumisu!! By far the best sushi joint in town. The Tiny Dancer roll and Chief Pocatello roll are both phenomenal! They are very friendly, and it’s a super cozy setting!
The tiny dancer roll is exceptional and the veggie roll is one of the best I have tasted. The service was excellent. Clean renovated interior. Definitely will come again. Yummy miso with mushrooms.
Very overrated. The rolls are loose. The sign of someone not very experienced at rolling maki hand rolls. Most of the hand rolls tasted pretty good. But, the Ghost Roll is not good. For supposedly having ghost chili aioli on it, the only heat that is discernable was from the sriracha sauce on it. Unfortunately, the only flavor it has is also from the sriracha sauce. Don’t waste your time on the ghost roll if you like flavor or heat. The spicy tuna roll has more heat than the ghost roll and it’s kinda expected that spicy tuna means sriracha sauce. The crab Rangoon is decent but very small little balls (not a good value). Their basic hand rolls are priced fairly but the fancier ones are $3-4 too expensive each.
The previous reviews are not lying about the service. I didn’t get my salad or hot tea. Pretty slow and the cook yells service every 5 mins. The food on the other hand is good. So that’s why liked it. The bento box is good deal even if they don’t give you your salad.
Mixed Bag. The service was slow and we had to remind the waitress to bring us our appetizers after our rolls had already come. I got takeout once and they forgot a side of sauce and gave us a spicy chicken dish instead of the shrimp that we ordered. Good thing the chicken was still tasty! It’s also a bit spendy for this college student…However, I’ve had several specialty rolls there (my favorite being the Portneuf Roll) and I now have regular dreams about sushi! I think they are wonderful and can’t ever wait to go back for more!
Hats off to the chef!. Daniel is the only reason we go to Sumisu, he takes our order, makes our food and hand delivers it; as long as we sit at the sushi bar and eat sushi our every need is attended to! Thank you Dan, Sheryl and I love eating dinner with you at the bar.
Somehow Still Worth The Trip. I would like to note, the service at Sumisu still needs a lot of work. I am not satisfied when I see sushi chefs doing double the work, busing tables because the service staff is too lazy to do it themselves. on this one occasion I saw two sushi chefs cleaning and busing tables in the opposite room of the sushi bar! I understand when the restaurant is busy everyone should help everyone, but you never see servers rolling sushi do you?I was a career waitress for 15 years, thankfully I am done with that line of work and on to bigger and better things, but I know first hand what it is like serving and the servers at Sumisu must have to pretty easy if the chefs have to clean up after them. The Tuna tartrar is wonderful and the sushi is exceptional as always. Thank God they have good sushi and apps, because service is ghastly.
