Im visiting from out of town, and was hoping for some great Chinese takeout from somewhere nearby my accommodations. The menu sounded wonderful, but what I received was not. Even though the Barbarian Beef said it came with asparagus and mushrooms, both it and the honey chicken were served on a pile of generic Chinese vegetables that obviously came from a freezer bag. And the Honey chicken that was supposed to be crispy fried in a honey orange sauce was actually a rubbery frozen grilled chicken breast with some generic Asian sauce that had to come right out of a bottle…. very disappointing overall.
Portillos is a bit of a Chicago tradition so we had to stop in to sample their famous Italian beef sandwich. Its an incredibly busy place, but the staff keep the crowd moving like a well-oiled machine. I really enjoyed the lively vibe, the retro decor and the food. The beef sandwich and chocolate cake was great but there are other healthier options if youre so inclined. Portillos is fast food, but better quality and more fun than the usual burger joint. Check it out!
This is seriously some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in ages!!! And best sushi also! I actually went to the new location on the waterfront near the pier and the ambience is quite nice! I can’t wait to go back. The salt and pepper crispy beef was incredible and so spicy!
Best Chinese in Chicago. I didn’t think there was good chinese food in this town till I accidentally stumbled in here a few years back. What a hidden little treasure. I’ve never had a bad meal here. So many good things(mmm panko crabcakes), I wouldn’t know where to start. Can’t wait to go back!!!!
One of the best Chinese spots you’ll find. I lived by this place for three years and I never had anything less than incredible. This is how Chinese food should be done. The lollipop wings, calamari, and pineapple coconut shrimp with candied walnuts are amazing. And the prices are very reasonable. Did I mention B.Y.O.B.? Yes.
Lollipop shrimp was scrumptious but too similar to tempura rolls, wouldn’t have ordered both if we knew how similar they were. Coconut lime shrimp was yum, spicy scallop & shrimp was not spicy. Decor & ambiance is nice but it’s a bit loud. Good desserts. BYOB is always a bonus!
An Interesting Experience. First, I love the decor. I want my house to look like that. It’s a rich, warm, inviting environment and the smells from the kitchen prevent you from leaving, no matter the wait. I went for the five course chilean sea bass meal. I ahd a groupon so it was half price. I wouldn’t recommend paying full price, though. The meal was great…except for the bass, which was spongy and under-seasoned. The other elements were delicious, event he noodles served with the bass were fragrant and fulfilling. The desserts are mostly ice-creams and sorbets arranged on plates with food and chocolate. I’ll return to this place but I won’t order the five-courser again. I’ll go for the foods I tried and liked.
