What a neighborhood surprise we found!. What a sweet surprise this was! We have been driving by this place since it opened in the fall of 2009, but never stopped in…didn’t look kid friendly…it is a whiskey bar after all. But on our way to another pub, and because we believe we should support neighborhood businesses if we want them to stay, we pulled up, asked about the kids, and had my BDay dinner here last night. What a wonderful new place for an above average pub meal. First, they were great with the kids, and though they don’t have a kids menu, the substantial grilled cheese sandwich with a side of mac & cheese was enough to split for our 4 & 7 year old, and they had leftovers. They were BIG fans of the two kinds of cheeses, bacon and avocado on thick sliced bread. The mac 7 cheese was wonderful. There were plenty of other items that would make good kids entrees as well…chicken fingers and quesedillas come to mind. Next, my wife is a pesce/veggie, and at first we were not sure that this heavy meat menu could accommodate her. We just had to look closer. She had a amazing salad, and also had enough to take some home for another meal. She was happy, happy, happy. BTW, the spinach cheese artichoke dip was a winner ahead of our meal. I had the burger with buffalo sauce, blue cheese, bacon and avocado. It was a messy delight. How refreshing to have buffalo sauce with a kick. I am so tired of bland buffalo sauce that doesn’t let you know it is there. And as a quick aside, a little buffalo sauce with the mac & cheese is exceptional. This burger was as good as any I have had a Kuma’s Corner, but I could get in to enjoy one here without having to deal with all the pretentious hipsters that now haunt that pub, much to the owner’s delight I am sure. To finish dinner we had the chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream, we got two for the 4 of us and couldn’t quite finish either serving. It was surprisingly tasty, probably because the cookies were warm and gooey, and the ice cream was above average. They were kind enough to add a candle to mine once they learned it was my BDay. We liked Ryan, who was a manager there, and our server Julia was great with menu advice and was super sweet with the kids. Looks like they have an extensive selection of whiskey, but I am a scotch drinker. They didn’t have a great tap beer selection, but they did have a few good bottle beer selections including a fav of mine, Dogfish IPA. What a wonderful new pub for the neighborhood, I can’t wait to go back.
