Last Call On The Right At The Airport. E: What is Chicago style hotdogs? They call it Jumbo Vienna Dogs after the Chicago manufacturer. It is priced at $4 (they call it $3.99). This location was near Gate C8, which excluding a Starbucks is the last food outlet. The hotdogs were sitting in warm steaming water covered by a top. This method seems to work as the hotdogs were tasty. I should have said no to the tomatoes as no one should eat a hotdog with one, but since I didn’t initially notice and they were included I ate them separately so as not to interfere with the hotdog’s taste. Many black and brown sesame seeds were on the bun rendering it tasty, but also consequently often dislodging and rolling all over the place like mischievous marbles attracted to every object in sight. The chili peppers were pickled, hot and tasty and almost set me on fire. At that point the diced onions, added in the right amount, were almost cooling the tongue. I skipped the cucumber, but opted for the celery salt, which added a zesty taste to the hotdog and was a good idea.A banana for the flight ahead was priced $1.19. Really, not $1.20?The jumbo hotdog was served in a wrapper sitting on a hotdog specialized container, which looked like a canoe. Despite the wrapper soon becoming damp the ‘canoe’ saved both the hotdog and my dignity in a busy airport terminal.-A: Terminals 1 and 2 of OHare are perpetually busy and too narrow for claustrophobes. My C1 gate was only a little less hectic.I ate the hotdog at one of those ubiquitous O’Hare charging stations, while being plugged in. -T: The Hotdog stand was a shared outlet with Unos Pizza and was deserted. The terminals were busy and there was practically no room at the sit-down restaurants, but no one wanted a hotdog. As such, one could get a hotdog immediately. An Aussie guy bought a bag of chips after I paid for my hotdog. Now I had passed a McDonald’s no more than 20 meters back and there the situation was like a powder keg and could have developed into a riot any second. With no discernible queue the masses were amassed pushing and shoving demanding to be stuffed and, yes absolutely, they looked like they want fries with that.-S: The older lady at the stand was Oma. She contrasted with hustle of the airport with a big smile that looked like a coy grandmother who is just giddy to serve. She did just that after she dropped off a handful of bottles into the ice barrel. As if trained by her corporate master she wondered whether I could pay with cash. I had to deny them the joy of saving 1.75% on credit card fees always trying to preserve my local cash as much as possible.
