Don’s Dock has been around forever. When I was young we lived nearby and used to have the fried perch quite often during Lent. Still the best! I was in the area recently since not going there in years. The fried perch is still the best! The tarter sauce was not very good and I used my own store bought that I had at home. I also ordered a lobster roll which tasted fishy and was actually a lobster salad and I did not like it at all. The sandwich was expensive, so I will not order that from them again. But I will be back for the perch!!That said, the service was excellent and I thought maybe it was not a good day for lobster there.
Had to try Chicago hotdog, read the reviews and got there early, 10:30 ish. Plenty of help, and had the uber driver tell me it is the second line. Service is fast, and the hotdog was good. I like a nice snap to it, and it had that, coupled with the snap of the pickle. I thought I would never try or like it, but I did.
Don’s Dock is a family owned, fisherman-based restaurant on the North shore. It’s a BYOB, which is helpful while you wait to order on a busy night. Once you put your order in, it’s very quickly prepared. We came during lobster fest, so we naturally ordered sides of lobster mac and cheese and lobster fettuccine. Both were extremely rich, though I found the fettuccine to be a little watery. The garlic shrimp were gigantic and perfectly paIred with the Cajun tarter sauce. The fried shrimp was excellent as well. The hushpuppies were fried fresh, though the cornmeal wasn’t as sweet as I’d hoped. However, the bread pudding was out of this world. Their sweet sauce had soaked into the bread, sweetening and softening it. The hospitality was very warming, the owner checking on us as we ate our meal. It felt like a very welcoming, neighborly place, making me feel right at home.
Good casual place for seafood. Don’s Dock is a very small restaurant inside a seafood store. Some of the seafood is fresh while other options are frozen. You can take home raw seafood to cook at home or they have meals they cook and you can eat at one of the 5 or 6 tables they have there. The hush puppies are GREAT – they sell them by the pound! 🙂
