If you make a trip to Chicago you have to have at least one meal at a Portillos location. It is a must on your list. They have the best Italian beef sandwiches and great Chicago style hotdogs. If you go to a location that includes the pasta and salads, then try a chopped salad. Just wonderful!Each location is uniquely done in a diner style design. And the chocolate cake is a must to finish off your meal.
Not a winner 2nd time around. We stumbled upon the Wheeling location after a family visit. Excellent service, food and presentation. Decided to try again after another family visit. Really looking forward to it. Disappointed. Husband’s steak tough and undercooked. . Steamed asparagus tough, shriveled and barely steamed. My filet great but not cooked to order. Garlic mashed potatoes good but lukewarm. But when we expressed our disappoint, the waiter and staff handled it well and adjusted the bill. Not sure we will try again tho.
Steak Wanted. My Husband and I have gone to Pete Millers Steakhouse many times with Family, friends from out of town and know it will have good food and service. Well not so this last Saturday… The steak I ordered was fine but it was presented to me with not so special mashed potatoes and a one tiny green sprig some that looked like it might a shamrock. Huge white plate…small amount of tasteless pototes and tiny sprig. Steak was fine, but no juice. I had to ask for butter and chives. Waitress brought it to me after some wait. She then never came back again till after we were finished. So maybe she is overworked, because she never looked at us , her eyes always seemed to be looking to the back of the dining room and around. For the price of a meal at Pete Millers I do expect better presentation and service. The quartet that was playing this last Saturday was very good. Sorry I have no photo to add to show .
