I remember this being a nice restaurant. Now, I’m not sure. We were here for dinner and the food was not all that bad. However they messed up every special request. The steak was ordered with no pink ; it came rare. The tuna was ordered well done and was not to be sliced. They did neither and when it was sent back it was still uncooked. A salad was ordered with just romaine lettuce and came with mixed greens. The Chicken Vesuvio was not like anything we ever anticipated. I’m not sure if it was the Waitress or the kitchen, but they should have been embarrassed. We are not going back. There are too many restaurants that care

Like other reviewers here, I was blocked from speaking to the manager when I called the restaurant after my meal there. The woman answering the phone also told me that they don’t give out their email address and suggested I write and mail a letter instead. I did write them a letter (see below). I have not received any reply nor do I expect to. I am no longer a customer of Symphony’s Cafe.Symphony’s Caf1945 Central StreetEvanston, IL 60201August 3, 2015Dear Sir or Madam,I am a regular customer at Symphony’s Caf and have always been delighted with the quality of food and service at your restaurant. I live in the northwest suburbs and I have always considered it well worth extra driving time it takes to visit. I wanted to bring to your attention some issues I had while entertaining a party of six at your restaurant on the evening of Friday, July 31st.When we arrived, our waiter asked if we were celebrating anything special. We told him we had 2 birthdays and an anniversary. Nothing was done with this information. We placed our orders for a few drinks, three appetizers, as well as soups, salads, and entrees, and he asked if we’d like some garlic bread for the table. We said we’d love some. Our drinks arrived soon, followed by soup and salad for four out of the six people at our table. After several minutes we reminded the waiter that we were still missing one soup and one salad at our table. He apologized, said there was no French dressing as had been requested, and gave us the other salad dressing choices. It was another ten minutes before the remaining salad was served, and another 5 minutes or so before the last soup was served. The garlic bread didn’t show up. We finished the soup and salads, and waited for our appetizers, surprised that they hadn’t come out yet. Soon, our entrees began to arrive. Two entrees were served when we reminded the waiter that we had ordered three appetizers. He apologized for forgetting about them and started back for the kitchen to place the order for them. Since we were already being served our entrees, we told him to cancel the appetizers and we would just like the rest of the entrees served. He asked if we’d like some garlic bread instead. Again, we said yes.During our entrees we reminded the waiter two more times that we were still waiting for the bread. By the time our entrees were finished and we were thinking about dessert, the bread had still not arrived. The six desserts we ordered were delicious! When I was presented with the check, the waiter pointed out that he had added an 18% gratuity to the check. I understand that some restaurants chose to automatically add gratuity to a check and I really don’t have an issue that as I have always tipped at least 20% at Symphony’s for quality food and service. On this occasion however, I was taken quite aback at the audacity of assuming an above-average gratuity for very poor service of what I felt was an incomplete meal and dining experience. This was only made worse by the fact that the gratuity amount had been calculated off the cost of the meal plus the amount of the sales tax. Needless to say I had a very disappointing dining experience at your caf. Making matters worse was knowing this was not representative of the quality and value that had kept me returning to Symphony’s Caf. Should you desire, I am open to discussing the matter further and hope that you will respond with a solution to prevent this type of service from occurring again.Sincerely,Glenn

Symphony’s is a delightful restaurant. Service was friendly, we enjoyed our Easter breakfast without feeling rushed and the food was very good!

Meh. The brunch menu is just a carbon copy of Le Peep’s the prices however are greatly increased. Mediocre food at high prices.

Not impressed. I recently had a Sunday lunch at Symphony’s and had made reservations to ensure a good table. We were seated right next to the kitchen in an area that was very noisy with unruly children. The service was very slow and somewhat apathetic. I ordered the grilled calamari salad which was only ok. The chewy grilled rings were actually cold, so I do not know when they were prepared. I would not return based on poor service and only average food. There are better area restaurants for the price.

Not what it advertises. I went to Symphony’s because it advertised a gluten-free menu. The waiter even talked up their gluten-free bread. I thought I was in heaven until the gluten reaction hit a few hours later. I wrote to the restaurant the old-fashioned way, on paper, and suggested that there was cross-contamination in the kitchen, exposing gluten-free menu items to gluten contamination. I never received an answer, which is just as bad as the gluten attack. Obviously, I won’t return.

DO NOT DINE HERE!. Food quality was poor and management/owners are unresponsive to followup phone calls and comments.Poor attitude towards loyal customers that had previously dined here and certainly never will again.
