Fine dining? Okay, I love the experience and the atmosphere of fine dining restaurants. Nouvelle cuisine is something to be relished. A chef who takes risks and challenges their patrons expectations, is to be applauded. A professional server, who has a passion for their restaurant, is a true ambassador. Aruns’ lacks in each of these areas. I didn’t sample anything there, that I haven’t eaten somewhere else in terms of equal or better quality. The waitstaff behaved as if were a mock opening. The presentations were good. That’s about it.
Quite the experience. A twelve course meal prepared to the hilt with amazing service.MB score 8.
Always a special treat. We have had the pleasure to dine here three times, and each time it was an exceptional dining experience. It is an evening out, and the meal is the entertainment for the evening. Yet, every time I am there I am shocked that one party or another wants to rush the meal so they can go somewhere else…theater, game, whatever. You don’t go to Arun’s ahead of other evening entertainment, this meal is your entertainment, along with the conversation you will have in this quaint and wonderful space with the company you keep for dinner. This is a Chicago jewel, and we are thrilled that it is in our neighborhood. Great food, exceptional service, always a fantastic night out.
Luxurious meal. Eating at Arun’s is quite an experience. from the first dish they serve you to the last one, you’ll be enticed to savor every bite by the aroma of the spices to the subtle taste of each dish. the chef can also create magic by indulging you with just the dishes that you would like and transforming it into something more than you would expect. truly an adventure and a great pleasure to dine here. great for intimate dates, too.
Expensive and Horrible Service for Typical Thai Food. For the price I paid, I expect exceptional, unique food, attention to detail and excellent service. I also expect to be served all my courses. I arrived with a group of 4 and asked for a menu so we would know what would be served to us. I was told by a waiter that they would verbal describe it when they serve each dish. The set $85 price includes 6 appetizers, 4 entrees (served family style) and 2 deserts. Unfortunately the staff at Arun’s is unable to count up to 12 and missed serving us one of the courses all together. The service was disorganized. We didn’t have a primary waiter but different people bringing out each course. There were times when the food would come out but we had no utensils or plates. When I initially was seated, there are these beautiful plates set out. The staff promptly removed them since they were just for show and never came back with any plates or utensil. Our first course came out and we had nothing to eat it on or with. The portions were small and what was served was good but it wasn’t anything exceptional. I could have found it at any typical Thai restaurant. I was excepting Thai food that I can’t get anywhere else. I got served Basil Thai Chicken as an entre!?Appetizer 1 – One bite salad: The description explains itAppetizer 2 – Rolled chicken stuff with mushrooms: It was soy chicken! You can get this in any Thai or Chinese restaurantsAppetizer 3 – Single Dumpling in broth: reminds me of the glutinous crepe you get at dim sumAppetizer 4 – Noodles with a Single shrimp: It was a deconstructed Pad Thai!Appetizer 5 – Spicy pork soupEntre 1 – Seared Scallop on a bed of asparagus – how is this unique Thai dish?Entre 2 – Fried fish with sweet & sour source – also served at my neighborhood Thai restaurant. . Entre 3 – Basil Thai Chicken – I can get this at any typical Thai restaurantEntre 4 – Braised beef curry – by far the best dishDesert 1 – Baby pear with a small crepe – extremely small dish, it was a single biteDesert 2 – Lycee sorbet – again a single bite dishThere were suppose to be 12 courses but as I mentioned above, only served us 11. For the price, I highly suggest you go elsewhere. If you want a good typical Thai restaurant, I suggest you find a place that doesn’t cost over $150 per person for food, drinks and taxes.
Delicious but expensive. When we dined there, it was a 12-course menu for 85$. They accommodate everything for your own dietary restrictions. Very subtle flavorful food, peaceful atmosphere. Take the time to savor!
