A Hidden Gem. Okay, so I go past this place every day. And it’s always full. Hmmmm…. So I finally stopped in. Clean, friendly place that shares common space via a doorway with the pub ‘next door’. No matter, it works well in this instance! I had called ahead and requested a table for two. When I got there, I required a table for one:( They offered to seat me at the table for two. I declined (it’s a small place) and I asked if it was okay to sit in the bar. Of COURSE it was! Diane waited on me and was attentive without being annoying or obtrusive. The mark of a professional. The menu is simple and small which again. is just fine. EVERYTHING is made by hand in house. I had a burger with a bowl of soup. Split pea and ham soup was as good as Gramma’s. Certainly not Cambell’s from a can! The burger, a perfectly seared, 1/2 pound of hand packed, USDA prime ground angus on a bakery roll with cheddar. Served with house-made pasta salad and probably 1/2 pound of hand cut fries. Everything was excellent. Prices are fair and service is superb. I’m that guy that almost always finds something amiss (engineer by profession/degree, sous-chef by passion/desire) and I had no bitches. Unusual for me. A little, hidden gem of a place close-by. I’ll be back! Go with cash, though or be prepared to use the in-house ATM; they only take cash.

What a tasty surprise! Was looking for good food for the family on the way back to north shore suburbs from Springfield. Was totally worth the little detour off 55. Everything seemed to be made from scratch. My kids ate most of my cream of broccoli soup. Homemade chicken nuggets. Decadent pies. Will totally come back!
