Dinner experience. I went for dinner last night. First, my tamale was horrible, so dry as if it was microwaved several times. I had steak tacos which were as bad cold and tough meat. I ordered a Patron margarita which was served in the smallest glass i have seen. The glass was Filled with ice after 5 sips it was gone. Seriously, $11 for a shot of patron. I then decided to order a corona light since the margarita was so small and the price was. $5 for one corona light. I was very disappointed in the price i paid for what i got. I have no intentions of going back to a local Mexican restaurant that serves overpriced food and drink that is 2 stars at best.
Just Okay. My fiancee and I are Mexican food fanatics, so I have overwhelming experience in this category. Here is my rating system:The Chips & Salsa: 5/10The Food: 5/10The Waitstaff: 9/10Margaritas: ? (Didn’t try)Overall, I’d give it a C+ in the Mexican category.
Usually a fan, but disappointed. We enjoy eating at El Puente from time to time, but had an uncharacteristically bad experience last nite. The meat in my steak chimi was cold, as though they had just pulled some previously cooked meat out of the fridge and inserted it as is. The wait staff replaced the meal, but the meat in the replacement didnt seem as tender/flavorful as in previous visits. The taco salad had a substantial layer of fluid in the bottom of the shell and some of the lettuce was wilted. Apparently they didnt drain/select it properly. The wait staff saw it, apologized & then compted the taco salad, but it made us wonder if the restaurant has changed ownership, lost the cook, etc. Hope this is only a one nite abberation.
This place is the best authentic Mexican you can find. I’ve been to Mexican restaurants all across the states and haven’t found any better. I live in Des Moines so I always make sure to stop by when I’m back in town. Every other Mexican you’ll have after eating here will just be a disappointment. There is no better!
Solid food offerings. I would recommend the pork tacos (al Pastor): Delicious!
Fish tacos. Need I say more.
