We are big fans of Portillo’s but we have never been to this location. The ambiance is really cool. There is neat Chicago memorabilia everywhere. The lines though are huge (why I gave this location a 4). It takes a long time to get the food simply because the amount of people getting good food here. We ordered the Italian beef sandwich sweet and wet. It is a good sandwich. Order the chocolate malt. Outstanding.
I like this place a lot. The food is upper end Chinese food, but I would highly recommend the crab Rangoon or anything that allows you to use their house made sauce. I would probably just drink it if there weren’t any people looking. Nice aesthetic and great wait staff. Probably a good date night spot, too.
Lowbrow Establishment. Tried pingpong yet again last night and was profoundly disappointed. As usual, the food was mediocre, greasy and overpriced (to be expected). What I didn’t expect though was for my server to ask to see my ID when I gave her my credit card at the end of the meal. This is when pingpong shows their true nature. Only lowbrow establishments would do something like this. It was insulting enough, but I can’t imagine how I would have felt had I taken a date, clients or my family. Advice to pingpong: if you would like to market yourself as an upscale restaurant, as evidenced by your decor, service and pricing, try acting like one.
Amazing Cocktails…Food’s Great Too. This mixologist at PingPong deserves a standing O…my fave so far is the ginger cocktail. Further, the pad thai is the best I’ve ever had. I have much more to explore on their extensive menu, but as long as I order carefully, PingPong doesn’t disappoint. The minimalist dining room makes for a loud experience, but great food, drinks and service keep me coming back.
Contemporary industrial design —single large space with very tall ceiling seating about 30 tables. Ordered Hot and sour soup with orange chicken and brown rice. The orange chicken was the best I have ever eaten. I suspect the rest of the menu to be of equal quality. One flaw of the restaurant: The noise level is extremely high—competing loud conversations with the load music is not conducive if you’re on a date.
