My wife grew up in Chicago. Her almost irrational fascination with Portillos is clearly bound up with wonderful childhood memories. I like the food, but she and my children love it. They would drive 30 minutes out of their way for a hot dog or Italian beef sandwich. I wouldn’t drive 30 minutes out of my way for much of anything, but she and the kids would rate it a 5-star for sure. So in a sense I’m speaking for the family here.

I went with friends for a night out. I think it’s the best wine and cheese bar here in our neighborhood. Loved their four cheese plate with peanut butter fudge it was great. I tired their grilled cheese sandwich. It’s was mouthwatering. My first choice place in lakeview if I’m on date

A Savory Resource. What a place – a tiny space with a broad compendium of way more than cheese, bread and wine: olives, oils, vinegars with a take-out or sit-down menu to delight the palate. The finely tuned collection of everything anyone who likes to cook and/or eat will lust after made me grateful to them for doing the legwork to bring together these wondrous edibles and practical tools. You can do it yourself by shopping for refined ingredients and impress the pants off anyone at your own dinner table, or sit down for one of the best sandwiches around if you work downtown. Their first space, half the size of the loop’s tiny jewel, established Pastoral as a destination for picky shoppers, cooks and eaters, as well as those hungry for knowledge in a friendly, embracing definitely NOT snobby-feeling place!

Cruel Restaurant. They are going out of their way to sell foie gras just because they think people like it. Maybe some do, but they’re uninformed or just ignorant. Those who don’t should boycott the restaurant.
