Like stated in the name, the restaurant is more of a bar feel. They have outdoor seating too! The downside is that it’s under the train tracks. Overall the food is decent, and rather inconsistent. I’ve merely received warm food at best while the person across from me got hot food of the same thing.
I have been there numerous times. I enjoy the food and I enjoy the Chef, Gary, who makes it a point to greet diners.Last night I walked in, was seated, and ignored by the hapless wait staff for 20 minutes.I promptly said something about the horrible mindless service to Gary and left. For those 20 minutes, I watched as the wait staff brought Coronas and various other beers to Hipsters in the dining room who were long finished with their food. The knucklehead staff does not have the brains to move the drinkers from the dining room to the bar so they can serve food at dinnertime.Truly a pathetic performance. The folks who want to come and enjoy the food take second place to the drinkers who are fawned over.I enjoy a cold beer or 5 on occasion, but when I am hungry and want to eat, I do not expect to be ignored. I also wonder about the establishment itself that seems to have an identity crisis. Is the food featured, or is it the booze? They seem to forget that hipsters can always abandon a bar for the next happening Lincoln Park or Wicker Park place where they can get hammered and stagger out and vomit on the sidewalk. The Grand Central was there before Barn and Company and went belly up.Hire a manager and get the act together.Move the drunks to the bar!!!Hire a wait staff that knows what they are doing. This place could really be special, instead it is just the latest watering hole.
Tasty brisket, but they don’t trim the fat before putting it into the sandwich. Would be nice to have to have other BBQ beside beef also on the menu. Very friendly staff, which is a plus.
Good food and will go again but needs more variety of bbq sauce
Mediocre. I usually don’t write reviews after one visit, but none of my complaints are of the variety that will matter over time, and I’m sure that I won’t visit Barn & Company a second time.My lunch consisted of the brisket plate – which was served with a generous portion of fries – and a side of cole slaw. The service was fine. I sat at the bar, and the bartender provided me with a number of sauces and ketchup, although I never use sauce on the first visit to a BBQ joint. The brisket was presented on a pewter platter as four slices (8 ounces total) without garnish. The meat was characteristically pink and had good flavor, but it was dry. And while I cut it with my fork, it wasn’t nearly as effortless as it should have been. The cole slaw was creamy and had a good flavor, but it was nothing that I wouldn’t make at home (actually, mine is more distinctive.)The fries kind of told the story. They were cut medium to thin and simply too crisp. One bath in hot grease nothing else, insuring that they would overcook. If you are going to set yourself apart in the BBQ market, you need to have good fries, and that means two separate fryers with high and low temperatures. Anything else is laziness. With places like Smoque, Chicago Q and Lillie Q, there is little reason to give Barn & Company your money.
Great BBQ, Good Value. Went to Barn & Company for dinner tonight, and I disagree with the other negative comments I saw online. We were seated within 5 minutes, even though it was a busy Saturday night. The service was good, our waitress was helpful and not too pushy but made sure everything was good. My dining partner and I split the combo #2, which came with the pulled pork, brisket, a sausage link, and 2 sides. For $20 this is a good deal! The pork and brisket were both juicy and flavorful, and the waitress brought an extra bun for me to make the brisket into a sandwich. We got the fries, which were excellent (I feel that most BBQ places seem to fail at making tasty fries); we got the mac and cheese as our second side- super tasty! I would recommend getting these two as sides. The sausage was a tasty treat as well, with a nice snappy casing and a peppery taste. I plan on going back here, I thought the food was great and it was a great atmosphere. Good televisions to watch the game on too.
Only thing worse than the service was the food! Served cold and flavorless. Had combo and ribs served to table after waiting 15 for server to show, 20 min for drinks, ordered artichoke dip as appetizer waited another 20 for that and them less than 5 min into the dip our food arived cold! Complained to server after she came by to see how everything was, 20 min later!!! She did nothing!! We asked for manager and were told he’s not in tonight sorry we don’t reheat our food I can put in another order. We said fine how long will that take? About 30min she replied! Good lord we only paid for two hour parking!
