We went in the late afternoon and the restaurant was empty with the staff changing from lunch to evening. The happy hour specials were clearly marked ,very reasonably priced and very tasty. Service was quick and the bar staff knew how to make a good margarita.
I love Portillos! Visit the downtown location Drive thru. Long fast lines and fast workers with a good system! Their grilled chicken sandwich, cheese fries and chocolate cake shake I highly recommended. Yes, chocolate cake in a shake 🙂 In my opinion, they have the best Italian Beef in Chicago.
Hands down, my husband’s and my favorite take out in the city. They even have a cute little walkup window for locals on foot. We have not had one thing we didn’t like, but standouts are the barbacoa taco (spicy!), al pastor taco (sweet!), michelada taco (tangy?), and the corn elotes appetizer. We also love the taquitos appetizer. Additionally, if you’re going to eat AT the restaurant like a normal person, the tequila section is fantastic. They have my favorite michelada mix in the city, too. Go go go go!
I was really impressed with the food here, the flavor combinations were great and more sophisticated than you’re average taco place. The prices were lower than expected, especially considering the ingredients they used. The guacamole came with a few different types of chips which was a nice touch. I recommend the ceviche scallop taco, it was delicious and unique – I came into it never having had scallops and liked it quite a bit. The tilapia taco was okay but the batter was pretty overpowering, I wouldn’t order it again. The service was okay but almost too attentive, one of the waitresses kept coming by to pick up plates that we were still using, it got a bit annoying.
Taco Joint is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Everything here is wonderful, from the atmosphere, to the drinks – and especially the tacos! I highly recommend the guacamole trio to start, which comes with tortilla and plantain chips. Additionally, the taco al pastor is a must-have. The waiters here are very friendly, and the wait is never too long. This location doesn’t take reservations, so I usually call ahead and only have to wait about 10 minutes once I arrive.
We went here after someone had recommended this place and we were overall very satisfied after our meal. Even though the place isn’t big, we were still seated immediately on a fairly busy Friday evening. We ended up ordering a margarita each and enjoyed the taste and the same can be said about our food. The Cochinitas were out of this world, and the speed it took for our order to arrive was impressive. In the end, friendly servers, quick service, decent drinks, and good food will keep me coming back.
I am the first person to review this place? Kewl. Maybe its new? I walked by it the other night from my new place in Old Town, and really wanted to stop back in. Luckily when I did it was half price tequila shots. On tuesdays they have this and taco flights, pretty much 4 tacos for the price of 3. The chicken tinga was the best, the duck confit the worst (go figure). It was just dried out and the salsa served with it did not help. The carnitas one was good, and I have had better al pastor elsewhere, a lot better actually. They have other things I want to try so I will go again.
