I recently had such a great time at Cafe Mustache, I had to register an account just to leave this review. Please note that this review relates to the bar and not to the cafe. One of my OH’s bands played a set in a show at the bar here earlier this month, and I came along to watch. I’ve only been here a couple of times – I work too much and don’t go out often enough, and we don’t live in the neighborhood – but this is a really great place. There are fewer and fewer venues in Chicago these days where you can relax and have a few drinks while taking in some cool bands. Not too many manage an atmosphere which is hip but comfortable, as opposed to either (a) snotty and pretentious or (b) totally lacking in character. This place totally has cool, comfortable, and unpretentious down pat. The artwork on the wall includes paintings of tardigrades! The sound system and acoustics are solid. They offer a variety of drink options at very reasonable prices. What more could you ask for, you say? Well, what was truly remarkable about this visit were the great guys working behind the bar. The place was PACKED, but the bartenders were assiduous and totally on the ball. The level of attentiveness these guys showed everyone, in spite of the crowd size, is laudable. At the same time, they were way personable, engaging, and super gracious the whole night; as a newcomer, I still felt as if I’d been a regular for years. That I was here after an especially rough week and the guys were so nice and service so outstanding, made the night that much more relaxing and enjoyable. If you’re reading this review and have never visited this exceptional cafe/bar before, I recommend that you remedy this at your earliest opportunity. They’re very convenient to the Blue Line. Pop in during the day and have some food, or come at night, drink lots, and enjoy some cool music. Either way, be sure to tip the sh** out of your server, because they absolutely do and will deserve it!
When planning a night out to catch up with an old friend it’s nice to know you can find a low key spot near Logan Square. On a Friday night, cafe mustache was exactly what I was looking for. There’s a cafe when you walk in but a cozy bar area is right off to the side. While you won’t find anything on tap, their bottle selection should work for you whether you’re looking for a local craft beer or just a few Schlitz tall boys. What if you don’t actually want to talk to the people you’re hanging out with? Cafe Mustache has something for you too. Most nights they have some kind of entertainment on a stage near the bar. When I went there happened to be some kind of experimental video synced with a guy on a piano, then a local comic. So if what you’re looking for is a quiet night, check this place out. euroatheart.com
