El Cid 2 had been a pretty good go-to Mexican restaurant, if a bit pricier than potential alternatives. However, tonight I ordered their nachos for delivery and was treated to a rather unpleasant change in policy. Without noting anything on the menu or changing the price at all, the restaurant changed their policy to only give twelve chips (I counted ten, in their nacho appetizer platter. To be clear: these are not enormous artisan chips, but regular tortilla chips. This meal was over in roughly four bites, with some leftover toppings that could easily have been spread over more chips–ironically, the cheapest part of the meal. I’m not sure how much it would’ve cost to put a few more chips in the nacho platter (like they used to do here), but certainly it wouldn’t outweigh the business lost from a jaded customer. What’s more, the dish was in no way justified in costing roughly $20 with delivery fee and tip–costs that I understand are extra, but that were paid with the understanding that I would receive the same quality food that I had in the past. At the absolute least, there should have been a note made in the description of the item, or the price should have decreased with the quantity of the food. This felt like nothing short of robbery, and I will not be returning to El Cid 2 in the future without some sort of indication that they’re interested in fixing what I believe to be a dishonest move on their part. I have attempted to call and speak with a manager, but I have not heard back.
