Great find for the adventurous eater. Unique foods from Asia combined with American standards into wonderful flavorful meals. Food is meant for sharing and advised to get the full experience. Drinks also exotic and strong! Wait staff can provide guidance on all.
Recently went Fat Rice and Ladies room and fabulous experience. It had been on my radar for over 4 months. With both places in growing popularity, made it hard to get reservations. Finally I got myself one and went. Had reservations for Ladies room first for drinks then Fat Rice for dinner. When I got there I entered Fat Rice first. They knew my reservations was for Ladies Room first. They told me to go out the door and walk down the street and enter the bakery. That little adventure made me excited. Haha. Got there and they were waiting on me. Super cool!! The Ladies room was really dim with an asian art theme. They gave me the option to stay in the Ladies room for dinner. After experiencing the vibe and music it was a no-brainer to stay in there the whole time. Before I go into the food I must say the staff was very polite and attentive. Ok… the food part. The food was like nothing have ever had in my life. Had about four dishes. Each one was a new experience to my taste buds. Made me feel as if I was in another country where the dishes originated from. The drinks were on point. Everything went together perfectly. Only got a few photos from my meal because I was too excited eating everything. My drinks were One Way Ticket to Bangkok and Wildcat. For food I had linguia, papo seco, pork + ginger dumplings and bife a portuguesa. Im looking forward to going back to try more dishes on the menu.
A hip place serving Asian (macau) food. I had the lamb dish and it was delicious! The place is a bit small. There is outside seating. Very crowded. Decor is very good, and gives it a cozy feel. Open kitchen. Very friendly staff. I will definitely go back.
After having fat rice on my short list of restaurants for longer than I can remember I finally made a reservation. I was excited to say I’ve tried Portuguese Asian fusion food. I had to do it a few months ahead of time because I guess I wasn’t the only one that wanted to eat here. On the inside you’re greeted by a cozy dining room. Some people don’t enjoy the proximity you are to your neighbors but I don’t find it something to complain about. The menu is kinda neat though. There are no beers on tap but the bottles they did have were solid though. We decided to get the namesake dinner item, the Arroz Gordo and the three for $10 small bites. We got the boiled peanuts the pig ears and the eggplant. I’ll say this, I don’t know what I was expecting with the pig ears, but it wasn’t for me. It was kind of grisly and reminded me of head cheese when I worked a deli. The peanuts were just ok too. Maybe it’s just not my thing. The fat rice was just that. They bring a put packed with so much food it’s almost comical when your waiter describes it. Linguica, clams, bbq pork, tea egg, rice, duck, giant prawns. I’m most likely missing a few things. This thing gets huge points for presentation and you can feed about 3 comfortably in my estimation. The thing is that it wasn’t as great as I hoped. It was missing flavor that I was expecting and the rice seemed kinda bland. Regardless, that presentation made the meal.Fat Rice missed the mark a little bit for me. It’s possible I should have tried a few different things instead of going with the arroz gordo. If you go here come with a very open mind as there may be some things you haven’t had an opportunity to try. euroatheart.com
It’s one of those places you have a hard time finding, but once inside, it’s a true treasure! Friendly staff, very cool and unique decoration and the food is also good. The restaurant closed at 2pm and we got there at 1:55pm and they said there was no problem! I suggest the dumpling, as it has a nice twist to the normal ones!
Fat Rice:. Fat Rice is the restaurant everyone and their mother has been talking about recently. I wanted to see for myself if this number four rated best restaurant in America 2013 (according to Bon Appetit) lived up to the hype. Waiting for an hour for a table can be a pain but the set up at Fat Rice makes it bearable (does anyone take reservations anymore?). Meaning there is a dedicated server for the people waiting in the outside seating that will promptly feed you drinks. The menu is based on food from Macau serving Euro-Asian comfort food. What that means is a mix of great flavors with roots from Portugal, Asia, India and Spain and a whole lot of lemongrass, garlic, sauces, curry, sausage, vegetables, noodles and seafood.I started with the Kalimotxo, described as sangria-like with Luberri Rioja Biga, coca-cola and lemon. It was a tasty twist on sangria and the cola actually works with it.The dining room is fairly small and lends to a very homey and comfortable setting. The seat to have is at the bar and we were lucky to snag it. Perched right in front of the kitchen you have a front row to a cooking show. I thought seeing the dishes would help me decide what to order but everything looked so good that plan backfired. Luckily the service at Fat Rice is stellar at helping you decide what to order. Our server walked us through everything and gave her personal favorites. When we still unable to decide chef/owner Abraham Conlon came over and gave us his advice.Since we were only two we did not go for the pice de rsistance the Arroz Gordo (Fat Rice) as it feeds more than two and wouldnt leave room for anything else. Definitely getting this next time when Im there with more people. The presentation of the pot stickers is different, served whole and looks like a savory pancake. Perfectly cooked, crispy, light and airy. Best pot stickers I have had in awhile. The fermented vinegar sauce with garlic, scallions and house made hot sauce was ridiculous! Get this. The decor looks like a mix of tasteful souvenirs a well traveled jet setter has collected and put in their open concept kitchen/dining area. The favorite of the night was the daily special of shrimp and sweet corn stir fry, shishito pepper, salted duck yolk and ground cherry with an order of coconut rice. Very fresh dish with hint of richness from the duck yolk and layer of spice with the pepper.Malay vegetable curry with long beans, okra, cabbage, thai eggplant, purple sweet potato and tofu puffs. I would recommend this dish for vegetarians that need to skip the Fat Rice dish. So many flavors even a meat eater doesnt miss the carne. We were too full for dessert but I would have definitely tried the pineapple upside down cake. I mentioned that if they sold the sauce served with the pot stickers I would buy it. Chef Abraham came right over and offered to mix us some to go to enjoy at home with our leftover pot stickers. He was a real pleasure to talk to and it was really interesting hearing about his roots and journey through the world that has brought him to today. Many may know him from his X-marx days where he put on underground inventive underground dinner. His obvious passion and respect for food and his customers coupled with his open and welcoming demeanor have me rooting for this place. aliciatasteslife.com
The wait was totally worth it! All the food was fresh and delicious! The wait staff and greeter were so nice, too! My only critique is that the music is too loud while eating dinner. Will definitely come back — loved it!!
