This was our first time eating at Portillo’s and loved it. Of course we had the Chicago hot dog and Italian Beef sandwich. The hot dog was so good we had to have another one!!!! This place is busy but they move through pretty fast. Had the chocolate cake and it was wonderful. This is a must stop if in Chicago!
Why did I not order the PB&J???? Stupid of me, but I was thrown off by the cash only place and then further distracted by the prospect of a free shot to assuage the ATM fee!! Nice big patio, and decent beer. But seriously guys should’ve gotten the pizza beer and Jameson….next time..
I have probably eaten here more than any other pizza place in Chicago, which is only odd because I do prefer Chicago style over NY style but I do think it’s safe to say that eating the former often is probably more damaging than eating the latter at the same frequency. Just to be clear though: both are pizza and are not all that great for you. Eat a salad every now and then. Anyway, any review of this place will cover the awesomeness of the PBJ deal, so let’s stick to the lovely foods. Outside of pizza, definitely try the Drunkin’ Donuts. Inside of pizza (I’m sure that’s a saying somewhere), the combinations are varied in good and straight up weird ways. The Boiler Room, Thai Serrano, Spina, and the Club are all great. However, I have to talk about this whole mashed potatoes on pizza thing sweeping my girlfriend and her friends so I have to eat it trend. Make it stop. I get the comfort food movement but stay the hell away from my pizza. The ambiance of this place is quite nice, and the back porch is lovely but can be kind of rough on hotter/humid days. As odd as it is to say, you have to go to the bathroom here. I’d hate to ruin the surprise so I’ll just let you find out for yourself. Or you can read some other review that will probably talk about it but you can blame them and not me.
Hands down favorite pizza is the boiler room. Always perfect crust. Tons of toppings. Huge. The PB&j is more than worth it. $8.50 for a PBR Tallboy, pizza, & a shot of Jameson. AND they have a back patio.
Cool atmosphere and the spinach artichoke dip is the most delicious ever. Jake is a great server. I’ll be back!
Decent Za, cool hang out. The pizza was OK, nothing spectacular. A quick lil stop for a slice of Za. They have a pretty impressive tap beer selection, including limited releases like Founder’s Backwoods Bastard and Breakfast Stout.
Stay away. Bad service, mediocre food, they don’t take cards.
