Classic place! Wonderful old wood bar with under bar refrigeration. Super friendly staff. We enjoyed the sausage, pretzels and beer. The pretzels were exactly what I have been chasing after!! Love this historic sign outside and the antique beer bottles in the window.

Wanted to check this place out for sometime. Stopped by for lunch.Started with Kartoffelsuppe Mit Thuringer ( creamy potato soup with spinach and Thuringer Sausage) perfect for little bit cold noon. Rich and creamy soup.Went for the Bratwurst sandwich with Berghoff fries. The patron behind me also placed an order for the same, but he was very specific no sauerkraut. Now I know why, that one was pretty sour slices of cabbage.Berghoff fries are their version of potato chips a bit different than the ordinary.

A true classic. Fantastic food, extremely professional wait staff, and an elegant atmosphere. Was disappointed that they no longer seem to have a cocktail menu. 🙁

If you are looking for classic German fare: good beer, carbs, and sausages, this is your place. The pretzel appetizer is a meal in itself and makes the beer taste even better. If you are not fond of alcohol, they even make their own root beer, which is amazing, and I’d buy it and take it home. If you are looking for a seating and leisurely meal experience, that is available. This is the kind of place you could bring your grandmother and it could evoke memories of how her grandmother made food. It’s worth your time and effort to stop by.

    Good, had the sausage trio.

Great Sandwich and service. Grab a freshly made sandwich made to order – the meat cut in front of your eyes , a pickle maybe some chips and then belly up to the bar and order a root beer. This is a classic that reminds one of vintage Chicago.

Classic cafeteria with a fantastic Rueben. They also have great fresh chips. I have to go back to try some of the other sandwiches and salads. Seems like a real Chicago institution.
