Hands down the BEST Italian Beef sandwich Ive had since arriving in Chicago two years ago. The amazingly tender meat arrives lovingly cradled in a super-soft, foot-long roll that holds the entire package snugly together. Ask for yours wet, and theyll dunk the entire sandwich in the au jus before wrapping it up in classic wax paper. If youre feeling adventurous, order the Combo and theyll lay a perfectlycharred, spicy(!) sausage across the length of your sandwich but plan on a nap afterwards!Other offerings include a meatball sandwich, a cuppa tree different cold subs, a wide selection of Italian-style pizzas (pan and thin, whole and by-the-slice) and made-to-order calzones. Also available are classic Chicago-style Vienna hotdogs, cheeseburgers and fried sides ranging from fries to cheese.Arrive early things get busy starting at 11:30am on the weekdays. And the place suffers from a bit of disfeng shui, with two and three lines of folks snaking up to the stage-like platform where you place your order. Grab your cafeteria tray of goodness and head back down the stairs to the dining room then secure your hunched-over, elbows up position to safely enjoy your soaking wet Italian beef sandwich.
Very good Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago hot dogs. I got cheese on my beef sandwich. The atmosphere is fun with pictures of various Chicago celebrities on the walls. We are there mid afternoon and it was pretty crowded. I can’t imagine what it’s like at lunch. I also had a watermelon Italian ice which was delicious. I recommend this restaurant.
Good Italian Beef and Great Dogs!. My Army Engineer Battalion was in Chicago for the day to the FEMA Region V headquarters to receive a briefing. But that was all secondary in importance to the prospect of sinking our teeth into some of the great Chicago food that this city is known for. As an outsider looking in, I required three things to get in my belly before the ride back home: Chicago Style Hot Dog, Italian Beef and a Stuffed Pizza. Luke’s helped me knock out two of these requirements with their quick and fast service and excellent food. Only one person from my group was from Chicago and the rest had never really had food like this before, but everyone agreed that it was awesome. Italian Beef was great with the thin, tender shavings stuffed inside of a chewy white bun. The bottom was soggy with the juices, but never gave way. The Vienna Beef hot dog was excellent with all of the toppings that your great city demands of it. As for other reviewers writing about bad experiences with Luke’s dogs, I don’t get it. This was the perfectly made and dressed dog and everything tasted fresh and was exactly like similar dogs I’ve had in other cities that emulate Chicago Dogs. So pay no attention to the naysayers that say that Luke’s doesn’t get this right.I appreciated the super fast business even in the heat of the lunch hour because although there were 10 people ahead of us, we ordered and received our food in about 7 minutes after walking in the door. And that, my friends, is what the lunch hour is all about.
Deep Dish. Stopped by here for a bite to eat while on travel. Food was great. We had the deep dish personal pizza and pepperoni calzones. Line was long but the food zipping out…..amazing! I’ll be back. Highly recommended.

Great Italian Beef. I fell in love with Italian Beef with hot giardiniera while working in Chicago a while back. Luke’s had the best that I’ve found; even better than Portillo’s, another of my favorites. One key is the quality of the juc, gravy, or whatever you want to call it. Since then wherever I go I’m looking for Italian Beef. When I find any Luke’s is the benchmark. I’ve found a few that came close, but now that I’m back in Chicago I find that Luke’s is still my favorite. You might also try the personal size pizza with Italian Beef topping: delicious!
