If youre going to proclaim you serve The Best Burger On The Block, being the only restaurant on the block shouldnt make that declaration a punch line after dropping $48 on a tiny burger and greasy grilled cheese sandwich for our two-top, we were left scratching our heads following our second lunch outing.Greeted and immediately seated at the height of lunch hour, we started with the tempura-battered fried pickles ($7), but they were so saturated with grease, their only salvation came from the Sriracha-seasoned mayonnaise even the waitress was surprised when we pushed the half-eaten portion of twelve chips aside. The Marq Burger ($14) is billed as grass-fed beef and came topped with seasoned mayo, a slice of plain American cheese and a massive ornamentation of sliced tomato, pickles and raw onions, leaving the less-than-eight-ounce meat patty hidden deep within the poofyness of the brioche bun. The meat, sporting a nice char, was minimally seasoned, and with no salt or pepper at the table we opted to simply use the Srirachi aioli left over from the pile of pitiful pickles. If its the best on the block, its only because of the locationWhile the Grilled Cheese ($10) looked good on paper buttered and toasted sourdough stuffed with American, Swiss and Pepper jack cheeses the over-Oleod offering was woefully light on cheese, and featured a heavily oxidized and blackened smoked avocado that left a lingering burnt taste. And while the tomato jam was a nice touch, it was lost in all the lube and cheese grease, squirting out the bottom of the sandwich upon the first bite. Both plates came with a pile of luke-warm, somewhat flavorless fries. All total, $48 for lunch and a couple of sodas.I think well stick with the selections we enjoyed the week before – the Waldorf Salad ($11) with its over-the-top blue cheese dressing, and the bountiful Cardini Salad ($12) that comes decorated with radishes, parmesan, pickled onion, kale, romaine, Brussels sprouts in an amazing anchovy dressing.Best on the block, hands down.
