AMBIANCE: think of Beurrage as an old-world pastry shop rather than a doughnut shop. FOOD: the pastries you’ll find at Beurrage are European in nature: croissants (au beurre), puff pastry turnovers, and Danish. You’ll find only one type of doughnut (yeast-style), in two flavors. FAVORITE: even though I just told you not to think of them as a doughnut shop, Beurrage happens to make the best doughnut I’ve ever had: their vanilla glazed. The doughnuts crumb dissovles to something outright creamy in your mouth. It yeilds to your bite like no other doughnut. Its sweet and delicate coating multiplies the melt-in-your-mouth effect. They fry their doughnuts in clarified butter; the resultant taste is unbelievable. Alternatively, they coat this same doughnut in cinnamon sugar instead of glaze, which provides more of a contrast to the doughnut’s crumb. YOU SHOULD ALSO TRY their blueberry-peach puff pastry. Or, if you’re looking for something pure, go for a plain croissant, butter, and a cup of strong coffee.
