Los Comales never disappoints as cheap street vendor style Mexican food. Don’t expect anything too fancy. Its definitely not the best in Pilsen or even on 18th St. The food is good and comes out quickly. I’ve never had an issue with service, but I also order in spanish.
Inconsistent Service. Went here a few days ago because I heard it was one of the best. Unfortunately, the food itself was nothing amazing. I decided to try a gordita but was unfortunately not given a knife with my fork so I tried to awkwardly pick up the gordita while parts of it fell out the back. In addition, the condiments were sitting on the table in a cafeteria-style plastic container with water(?). The cactus gordita seemed to lack any spice or flavor on its own (they tasted like green beans I could have boiled at home in 2 minutes inside a corn tortilla of an unappealing texture). The condiments were also substantially larger than would fit well on the gordita and there were no hot peppers of any type to be found. By the time we were ready to leave and it was obvious we had completed our meals (and our plates were taken), we waited for 20 minutes for a waitress to bring the bill before one of us got the bright idea to ask about it and discovered that we were supposed to go to the front. It seemed like it would be an interesting experience, but it ended up highly disappointing.
