Bakery: I’ve never turned down a sweet roll, donut or bread in my entire life…..until today. Last week I bought 3 loaves of various breads to try. First of all the bread was in plastic bags and sitting on fold up picnic table for display… unappealing to the eye and the bread was steamed to doughy due to the plastic bag. Secondly, they were all undercooked so I popped in oven at home. Tasteless. This morning I decided to try sweet rolls to give another chance in hopes of redemption. Absolutely unedible. Each danish weighed about 1lb and they too were undercooked and completely tasteless. I spit it out and could not eat it. Even popping in oven wouldn’t have helped these tasteless bricks. The place doesn’t have an appetizing display of breads and there is never anything baked to choose from. This morning at 8:45, there was not one loaf of bread for purchase. All the tacky fold up tables were empty. I wouldn’t have purchased anyway due to the poor quality but still…. Bread should be available at all hours of the day and they should be displayed fresh out of the oven on cooling racks behind counter unbagged for all to see. I will not be back and I doubt if they will last long due to the lack of deliciousness. Sorry. If there was a 0 for rating I would have chosen it. It’s worse than poor on all levels.
Spectacular food, dismal service. Some of the best and imaginative food you will find in the QC area, BUT the wait staff really needs to step up their game to match the food though. Been there a half dozen times over a year and yet to have a good experience with the waitstaff. Nice polite people, they just need to better more attentive to their jobs.
Very good, fresh, local food. I had dinner here with a large group of friends. We shared appetizers, fried green beans and stuffed dates. Both were excellent and I would order either again. I had the filet with a red onion jam sauce. One of the best filets I have had in a long time, perfectly cooked very tender and the sauce was excellent. I also tried the chicken dish which was very good but had a little too much of a green pepper flavor for me. The house salad was fresh and the blue cheese dressing homemade. I had the sweet corn Mac and cheese as a side while I would not get that again others at my table liked it, I also tried the pan roasted potatoes which were better than the Mac and cheese side dish. I had the pear and burbon creme brle for dessert it was a small portion but very good, I also tasted the shite chocolate bread pudding which was very good. Apple pie with homemade apple icecream was also very popular with our group. The staff was friendly and attentive, atmosphere was comfortable and reflected local heritage (trains, John Deere). I will go back again.
