One of my most favorite Chinese restaurants in general. They’re known for Sichuan cuisine of everything hot but they also have the regular offerings of Americanized Chinese. I have been going here for years and went through various ownership changes but it is still good and I still come here. When I go with a bunch of Asian friends who speak Chinese, we tend to get better service and foods that I never knew existed. It’s awesome. Then, I come back with non speaking Chinese friends, we had a hell of a time ordering those foods I had before. Lol. That’s why I always take pics.Their dry chili chicken is my fave! They’re so flavorful, crispy, spicy, and tasted great with rice. I just looooveee it! I also love the fish in the spicy broth, and all their mouth numbing offerings. Yum!!They also have a very good selection of vegetarian dishes on their menu. The eggplant with basil, mustard green with bean curd, ong toy, sichuan green beans, etc were delicious as well. The noodles are handmade and tasty too. When I come here by myself, I usually get the spicy Taiwanese beef noodle soup for myself. It’s a bowl of tasty stuff that is so satisfying. If you have never tried this place, and love spicy food, you need to go NOW! Please don’t expect stellar friendly service. It’s a Chinese joint for Pete’s sake.
Bad Bad Experience!!!!!. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, nor would I ever go back. Very unprofessional and impolite servers. The walls of the restaurant were very dirty, the restroom was dirty and unhygienic. Servers were throwing plates and cups on our table. Didn’t even ask if we would like to drink something, just brought iced water in dirty glasses (after waiting for so long). The food was very bland and tasteless. No one came in between our meal to inquire about the food or ask if we need something. We were not happy with the service & food so we didn’t include tip on our bill and the server got mad and asked us to include tip. We said we are not happy, but he demanded a tip and argued with us very rudely. We tried to explain this to the other server and she just kept on saying, it’s ok bye it’s ok bye. She literally shooed us out the door!!!!! Worst Chinese Restaurant Ever!!!!
The soup is fantastic
Authentic. From service to food this place is authentic Sichuan cuisine. I studied abroad in Sichuan province in china and when I came home I wasnlooking for authentic sichuanese cuisine and this is it.I like the map tofu – a super spicy silky tofu and pork dish, the green beans, garlic flavor eggplant, kung pao chicken, and twice cooked pork (all are at least a little spicy except the green beans). If undont like bone in meat make sure to ask your waiter if the meat is boneless before unexperiment. I also love the jasmine tea. My sichuanese friend came to visit and when we went for dinner he liked some of the dishes better than in his hometown because he said the quality of food was better. Sometimes service isn’t the best but this is normal in china. The prices are a little higher than your typical Chinese place but definitely worth it if you want REAL Chinese food.If you aren’t the adventurous type it may not be the place for you.
I just called the restaurant to see if they were open and ask them a question about their location. They told me to call back because they were too busy. I am glad they are busy, so they will not miss my money.
Rude Servers!!!. This place was my favorite restaurant before but now it has gone down hill. The service is horrible. The wait staff acts like you owe them a million dollars. The food was greasy and salty. I think the chefs changed too. What happened??? Well I asked around and they said the original owners of Mapo opened up a restaurant in Naperville called Lajiao . ( Somewhere off of Route 59).
Not good!!!. The place was not very clean and the food was very salty. I heard the owner changed so the food quality is not as good. We use to go there all the time and have the beef soup noodles but now it tastes different. What a disappointment…
