This place is just right in the heart of downtown. I tried their buratta pizza it was mouth licking. Cocktail list also exciting. Perfect place for a date. Cozy place with great ambiance. Staff is very friendly.
Came here for a training social with my company where we were told that we’d be making our own pizzas! Got me (and the others) so excited until we learnt that we’d be making a pizza dough, but not eat the final product. Instead, we’d just be choosing toppings to create a personalized pizza flavour. Initial disappointment aside, the food was glorious! In fact, I didn’t end up eating any pizza because I absolutely stuffed myself gorging on appetizers. The skewered roasted vegetables were delicious, but the roasted cauliflower with goat cheese was absolutely heavenly.
Italian roast beef sandwich has bad taste; au jus tastes like ah grease. Potato chips great. Pizza okay
Nonna’s Meatballs. Best meatball I have ever had in my life, moist, flavorful and delicious
Horrible Drink — Horrible Food. I dine out 4-5 nights a week and must say that Bar Toma is one of the worst restaurants in Chicago. We ordered Cosmos and got something pink and vile and definitely not Cosmos. The food was even worse. My lasagna was two flat charred black slabs in red sauce. I asked our waiter for one that wasn’t burned and he said that that’s the way they prepare it — charred on the grill. Lasagna flattened and charred on the grill?!?! Yuk. In fairness I will say that the Bar Toma Salad was edible. If you’re looking for good food, go elsewhere. It might be safe to order beer and pizza at Bar Toma. I guess I should have taken a hint from the name — It certainly qualifies as a BAR that serves pizza and not a restaurant for dining.
Great Toma Salad. Order the half portion its enormous. The octopus appetizer was great. Montepulciano Slightly expensive but for a combined lunch / dinner Im satisfied. Gelato looked delicious too but I refrained
Bar Toma .. not your Fathers Pizzeria. If you visit Chicago you must have pizza. Of course rumor has it only the tourist eat deep dish locals go for something different. Anyway when looking for pizza in Chicago there is a Miracle Mile full of options. Pizza comes in every shape size and price. But for the discriminating pizza lover there is only one place to go – BAR TOMA. This is not your Fathers Pizzeria Bar Toma is the creation of renowned Chef, Tony Mantuano. Yes also the creator of SPIAGGIA the only four star Italian restaurant in Chicago. Point being you’re not eating pizza – you’re having a unique dining experience. The ambiance at Bar Toma is cool. In addition to table seating you can sit at a counter and watch the chefs at work at the Woodturning Oven.creatinge Artesian Pizza. My favorite seat in Bar Toma is at the Mozzarella bar just at the edge of the kitchen. Its fascinating to watch the chefs work their magic as you enjoy your food and wine. Dont be shy the chefs will share their knowledge they are very engaging. Chef Effy was running the kitchen on the night of my visit and it was like watching a great conductor at work. Bar Tomas appetizer menu alone is unlike any pizzeria you have experienced. Items such as sliced to order organic prosciutto, orange stuffed marinated olives, Vermont artisan pepperoni and the list goes on. Check out the website for the full display of these unique ingredients and offerings. (www.bartomachicago.com) Now about the pizza of course they have Margueritea but then there is Casino with Manila clams, Tamworth bacon, shallots, jalapenos, lemon, parsley and bread crumbs. Im sure you get the idea pizza here is a work of art. This list of specialty pizza goes on and on. If youre in Chicago and really want to experience Chicago Pizza treat yourself to Bar Toma. Buon Appetito!
