Small Bar, Great MusicIf you’re looking for blues downtown, this is the place. It’s always crowded and the music is always good. Usually lots of dancing as well!
It may not have have the legendary status of other venues, but it is THE choice for a small, intimate, genuine, blues night in Chicago. Great atmos, people with great character, excellent musicians. The walls literally tell the history of the blues, with artwork from John Carroll-Doyle. Drinks are on the cheap side, but be prepared to tip generously, NY-style, especially because the front man will repeatedly point it out throughout the night. Blues people, as in many other cases, have their own codes and expect certain reactions and engagement from the audience, and you will feel like a newbie if you’re one, but don’t be intimidated. Do get early in order to get a seat, and enjoy.
