Great guacamole with the experience. Beautiful place, higher end. In general all the food we ordered was great. I would definitely go back next time I am in Chicago!
The decor is really cute with a great ambience (there is an artificial fireplace et al!) The drinks are good – I’ve had a couple of margaritas and always liked them. The food, you need to know what to order! They have a couple of great dishes and the rest is below average. I like the Chimichanga De Pollo Poblano and the Pollo Chipotle!
Great Mexican. Family friendly -reasonable prices-
Delicious food, slow service. Let me first say that the food here was very good! I loved the table side guacamole and my enchiladas veracruz were superb. However, it look me flagging down someone after sitting for 15-20 minutes before we could even place a drink order. This was on a Sunday night at 7:30 when they did not look busy.
It’s…ok. This place was good, and I would probably go back if in the area and super hungry, but not really my cup of tea for mexican restaurants and overpriced. You basically pay for basic mexican in the high rent area. Other place are better.
Awesome atmosphere, mediocre entrees – but we’ll try again!. The wife and I popped in on a Thursday night around 6:15pm and were immediately seated in an empty dining room within 30 minutes, the place was packed, with folks queuing up at the door and swarming the beautiful bar. The restaurant is drop-dead gorgeous, with deep tones and very, very minimal lighting (hint: if you want to be able to actually read the menu, you might consider a small flashlight even our waiter complained about the mood lighting set in the front of the house around 7:00pm.)We ordered a couple of the drink specials, including a Gingertini and duo pomegranate and lime martini, both $11.00. The tableside Topshelf Guacamole, $9.95, was a hit and gracious plenty for our two top the portion, customized to our spice preferences by the Guac Girl using jalapenos, onions and dry spices would have easily served four people. Add to that a generous basket of chips and two types on salsa an ice-cold green tomatillo, the second a warm, salsa + enchilada sauce dip.The shrimp, scallop and fish ceviche app was the homerun of the evening, and at $8.99, the massive portion featured some pickled veggies and long, tostado chips as well. Fresh, tasty and, again, enough for four.Timing for the meal was spot-on, and the entrees popped out hot and fresh with our second round of drinks that included a $8.00 amber Mexican beer and a mojito ($12.00) with more foliage floating in the tall glass than most salads. The wifes Enchilada De Mole ($10.99) featured two tightly wrapped tortillas of chicken, about quarter-sized, in an overly-sweet, dark mole sauce sprinkled with raw sesame seeds honestly, it tasted like the kitchen had run out of the classic, bitter sweet Mexican chocolate and simply substituted Hersheys syrup for the sauce. Very, very disappointing, and our server noted only a smattering of the portion had been eaten.Sadly my beef brisket tamales ($18.99) werent much better the two rather puny, three-inch corn tamales were horribly over-steamed, then appeared to have been snipped open, hollowed out and stuffed with a mere fork-full of brisket just before service. The masa was absolutely tasteless, with greasy brisket just sitting on top which is why tamales are, historically, cooked with the protein inside the corn husk wrapper. Add to that a small portion of tasteless Mexican rice, and their special was a Tamales 101 failure. Our attentive, tuned-in server, noting we had left most of our meals on our plates, was very gracious, and offered us a lovely Mexican flan dessert as a comp for the mediocre meal.As new Streeterville locals, well certainly give the Cantina Laredo another try especially to check out the awesome bar scene but at $100+ for a date night two-top meal, well need our next round of entrees to be better than the local Chi Chis restaurant
Classy. Enticing. Spice-tastic. Fabu-mole. Ole! Fresh ingredients, fun atmosphere, free sparkling dessert for your birthday!
