This place is an experience. The history and atmosphere is amazing. Let the waiter take control and with a few questions he presented a fantastic meal. The steak was cooked to perfection. Don’t rush, enjoy and take the whole experience in.

So the Chicago Chop House is a staple of the city. Everyone who knows this steakhouse knows they have veal even though it isn’t on the menu. Why do we know this, because we were told by someone who works there. We politely request it and are told that they no longer carry it. We insist that they bring the maitre d over to discuss the situation. The maitre d kindly insists that they no longer carry the veal and haven’t for 5 years. Next we speak to the owner and after explaining that we always have it even after it is removed from the menu he then admits they still carry it. They lied to our face. Not a good way to do business especially when you go there for 30 years. Needless to say we will never be back

Great Steak but Pricey. Visited during a convention because of everything I have heard about this place. I can honestly say that the bone-in ribeye steak was perfectly marbled and was at the temperature that I ordered. The outside was very nicely charred and the flavor was very very good. At $83 for the 16 oz steak, you do pay more. I am not a steak connoisseur but this has to be one of the better ones that I have had – better than the Ruth’s or Morton’s chains. Pricey but very good. At some point, I will have the opportunity to compare to other, non-chain Chicago steakhouses.

Four of us had dinner here on a Sunday night. We sat in the bar area so we could watch football. The service was excellent. Our server Ben was very attentive to every detail. The drinks were well prepared and prompt. We ordered 3 different steaks and had them served family style on a platter. They were cooked perfectly…the prime rib was the best. We also had salads and sides that were all fresh and tasted great. After drinks, a bottle of wine, salads, sides, and steaks our bill was pretty hefty. We knew it would be expensive before we got there, so it wasn’t a big deal. I would recommend this restaurant to someone looking for a classic old school Chicago steakhouse. Will I be back? I don’t know. There are tons of great steakhouses in Chicago. They all are unique.

Had a great steak, tasty and cooked perfectly. Great selection of wines by the glass or bottle. Good lobster bisque (even though not Maine lobster). Prices in line with most fine steak houses. Sat at bar, Christine was great, very attentive and made great conversation. I would return.

Beware, bad service. We all left feeling hugely disappointed and ripped off by what was served and how the wait staff went about serving our table. I live in NY and have been to several great steakhouses so I can say with fair certainty that this place did not meet the standards at all.Seafood appetizer – charged us over $400 for something that was disingenuously pitched to our table by the waiter, who was pushy with trying to get us to order more.Steaks – for the portion size, was entirely overpriced and several of us found our steaks overcooked when we asked for medium to medium rare. In addition, they charged our bill erroneously for extra steak sauces that we did not order. What kind of place does that? This is not the place it used to be and there are plenty of other top notch steakhouses in the city – i.e. Capital Grille, David Burke’s Primehouse, etc. If the restaurant owners care about the quality of their product and service, they should make sure their staff understands what it really means to be a respectable establishment.I would not recommend this place to people living in or visiting Chicago.
