Top of our list of Chicago bars to visit! The Drake Hotel is rich with history and the Coq DOr is a jewel in its crown. Its old fashioned with original decor, usually busy and fun to people watch as much as it is to enjoy the ambiance. Hamburgers and lobster rolls are fantastic, enough for a nice lunch or dinner. This is a must experience spot whether just for a drink or to linger for the evening over a couple of drinks and a meal. Service is ok but you need to be persistent.
Food: B+Service: A-Atmosphere: BLocated in the Drake Hotel, this classic Chicago spot started up right after Prohibition ended. They have their own tasty rye whiskey, made by an Evanston company. The bookbinder soup (red snapper soup that you mix sherry into) was really rich and hearty. The yogurt cheesecake with strawberry merengue, berries, and strawberry jus was a real treat for dessert.
My wife and I ate here and had a great evening. Started a little awkward not noing how the place worked, just pick a table and sit. Great French onion soup, the burger was one of the beat I’ve had. Finished with a raspberry soever that was to die for. Piano player and singer were good to.
