So many chain restaurants are decorated with stuff that looks like it came from yard sales. The Green Door Tavern is full of original pictures from about 100 years ago. It also has great food with some unique menu items. My friend, and I went there recently. I had chili, which was excellent, very thick with a nice heat to it. My friend had a good tuna melt and a burger. The highlight was the fried nutella sandwich for dessert, which was delicious.
I’ve lived in the area all my life and have been to plenty of locations. In every other location, the staff has been polite. This staff seems as if they’ve never worked in food service. Bordering on rude, they act as if they’re doing the customers a huge favor. I never complain or leave bad reviews, but they need to buckle down on the service employees here.

This is really a review for the drifter (the secret speak easy with in the bar!) The entire process of getting in was very Narnia and the magic wardrobe-esque. I won’t give too many details, just to keep the mystery, but once I was in it was a truly unique experience. To begin with the menu changes every night and is on a set of tarot cards. After sifting through the cards, I determined my fate: the Red Rum. It was hands down the best cocktail I have ever sipped (in my very short window of legality, mind you). It was sweet but had a citrusy bite and was topped with a layer of egg white and a sultry black violet. Halfway through our drinks there was a burlesque show on the tiny stage in the back. Not entirely my style, but I won’t deny that she was very talented and the act added to the aesthetic. All in all, great place & great drinks!
Cool place to hang out. The food is so-so. There is alot of things to look at on ceilings and walls that are antiques. A great Chicago bar to have a drink in.
