OK, let’s be clear upfront this is an airport restaurant. Don’t expect a quiet, intimate setting. Airport restaurants run on high volumes of customers. Yet I must say, surveying my dining options at Chicago Midway Airport (MDW) I think Harry Caray was the best option. Last month my wife and I arrived at MDW around noon and had time for lunch before catching our Southwest Airlines flight back to San Diego. Surveying MDW dining options Harry Caray’s by far had the most customers and energy. So we put our name on the reservation list and were told to expect a 10-15 minute wait for a table. Sure enough, our name was called in that timeframe. The menu had a good variety of meat, seafood, sandwiches and salads. Returning from time with family in Wisconsin we were desperate for healthy options! My wife chose the Tuscan Salad and I the Caesar Salad. Both salads were large portions and good. Our waitress was polite but had too many tables to serve. Likewise the kitchen took some time to produce the meals as they appeared backlogged. Overall Harry Caray MDW is an A-OK restaurant!
I always order the steak and cake and decided to try a fish dish. There really were a ton of amazing fish choices that I want to go back and try, not to mention the trophy looking Alaskan King Crab legs you can order. ..
I would give this restaurant higher marks if it were not for the dreadful way we were treated at the start of the evening. We booked a table for 8 people at 8pm. Turned up at 7.45 and told them that two of our group had cancelled due to illness so we would only need a 6 top. Told no worries, our table was being cleared and would be ready very soon. By 8.10 we checked again and were told that the people had finished at our table but were lingering over their check and the manager was trying to ease them out. At 8.20 we were told that another table had been set for us. Walked over and it was a 4 top set for 4. Reminded them we were 6 and they then tried to turn the 4 top into a 6 top (chairs didnt even pull up to table) Started to get a little agitated with them as feel our ease and politeness to wait was getting us nowhere. By 8.30 ‘our’ table was ready and sure enough the 6 of us were shown to a table that could easily have accommodated 8 or more. No real apologize from anyone. A visit by the Manager who must have been made aware of this issue would have meant a lot but sadly that did not happen. Once again I’m reminded that staying polite and courteous often means that you are overlooked for those that shout and make a scene – what a sad indictment.Hard to recover after such an appalling start. However, it would be ingenuous of me not to add that all the food we had was absolutely delicious. Probably the best crab cakes we have ever eaten. Portions are huge, food is fresh, and beautifully prepared. Service was great, courteous and very professional as you might hope for such an establishment. I can see why they would get good reviews which just makes me sad that we received such bad treatment.Noise is an issue on a busy Saturday night as the restaurant is huge and some of the patrons were probably a little tipsy (being polite with that remark). I would not return to this restaurant nofixedabodeforsue.com
A great place to catch up with friends over some not so traditional food. Loved the vibes and the service and the food was good as well. This place is definitely a must try if you wish to try out something new
Great spot – huge range on the menu and a very good wine list… the food was beautiful and big servings – staff and service perfect..well priced as well
Went late (945 pm) on a Friday. Still very busy but we got right in. Sesame seared tuna appetizer was great. Crab cake ok. Main courses of sea bass and steelhead were absolutely memorable. Great service. Stay far away from the muddy bottom pie. I’m not sure what they’re thinking on this dessert. Full of frozen nuts and frozen chocolate chips. Somewhat inedible. We will however go back.
Great service, food good, under poured on the cocktails. At $12.50 each they should be tall!!! Watch the pour???
