A very solid experience with good food and just enough flash for the cash. Typical start, with a good sour dough type bread and apps. Crab cake was east coast good. All three diners had the Lawry Cut prime rib, which is cooked medium and sliced off of a giant piece of beef at a covered trolley right at your table. Paired with a robust mashed potato aujuice. A ‘spun’ salad served just prior with an almost thousand-island like dressing that really hit the mark. We all split the asparagas side which was OK. Drinks pricey. Service is polished and efficient. Better make reservations, as this place fills up quickly.

I am an Asian radiologist. I came to Chicago to attend 2017 RSNA. This is my 15th visit to RSNA.I always have deep respect for Americans atmosphere, liberty of choice.Five years ago, I tasted steaks in Lawrys for the first time. From that time, my favorite restaurant in Chicago is the Lawrys prime steak. However, I would like to let you know an unpleasant experience at the Chicago Lawrys restaurant yesterday night. Our number of party is 15. As soon as our team was seated at the restaurant. A waitress came to me and recommended appetizer. I said yes in my bewilderment. But she did not show the menu for appetizer and did not explain about the price and quantity. After while, a lot of appetizer came to us. Then she took order for main dish person to person very quickly. She recommended me for side menu, without any notice of quantity. Until I saw the bill, I realized that she took order of side menu, for each person. If she had given information for price and quantity of the side menu and appetizers, I would never have ordered. The main thing that made me angry is dessert. She came to me. Then she recommended me for the most expensive dessert menu of 14 $. She repeatedly told me the special menu. I complied with a bad grace. She did not take order for dessert for remaining members. She was gone. I did give order not for US but for only me. In 15 minute, 15 chocolate carts were delivered for each person.I did not have no idea that she did not take order for dessert person to person. Our member start eating them without even knowing the reason. Total amount cost was 2135 $! for 15. I had never experience about that. We are very upset for the reason why she forced me to order the expensive appetizers and dessert menu and she did not give information for quantity of side menu and desserts. The waiter or waitress of other restaurants in US always try to give more option for customers in my experience. If customers order too much, they usually alert to me.They give good suggestion for the menu considering the number of party. But Lawry’s waitress did not care for foreign customers. There was no right to select the menu and there was no effort to give information for the quantity. I doubt that she intended to overcharge the price of dinner for foreigners.

Retro but still classful establishment divided into smaller rooms w/ oil paintings of masted ships & fox hunts. Waitresses, who are referred to by their last names & who wear horrendous brownish skirted domestic uniforms, still manage to provide attention despite their apparent physical discomfort. The spun salad is presented table side, dressed in the much ballyhooed ‘vintage’ house dressing. Tasted like French to me. The star attraction is also presented at the table in an efficient & enjoyable ceremony, w/ the ‘master carver’ lopping off your desired size & temp of rib from its penultimate home in a giant, silver-domed, wheeled cart. Included accompaniments are creamed potatoes w/ brown gravy & Yorkshire pudding. You learn something new every day, & ystd I learned Yorkshire pudding is a souffle-like, eggy roll used to sop up the beef juices. A unique & useful side item. A quick review revealed the wine list to be diverse. The regular prime rib cut will set you back $40, w/ 2 smaller & larger options each. Excellent entree but I’ve had others as good. Recommended for the overall experience.

What a joke, crapy little piece of meat, cold piece of meat at that. Snort service, don’t bother, go to Mortons or Ruth’s

Not the same place. I first visited Lawrys about 15 years ago in Chicago and had a succulent lunch in their bar. It left such a lasting impression ( I had the prime rib sandwhich). Recently I was finally able to return Sept 2013 . The bar was torn up so we dined in the main dining room. The prices for a sandwhich had soared. to save money I ordered the pulled prime rib BBQ sandwich only to be very dissapointed by the small amount of meat versus the bread, which was not that great and somewhat stale. The sauce tasted like bottled BBQ sauce. The sides were served in tiny cups that gave you a few bites. It was tasty but the portions were skimpy. Not the way I remember it. The chips were the only thing that had not changed. Very pricey for what you get. When will restaurant owners learn that the food is the least expense at a restaurant and begin giving you more!!!!!!!
