The food here is overwhelmingly terrible…Had to send back my food on several occasion. When they could not get eggs and bacon where it was served to me uneatable, that was my final try at this spot. Love the Talbot though!
Went here to celebrate a friends birthday and it was ok. I found the searing outdoors to be less than comfortable. The food was pretty good, but service was just ok. I’m not sure if I would return here. stephsspot.com
So wanted to like it….didn’t. I usually stay at the Talbott while in Chicago, but it was booked solid last weekend (Chicago Marathon). I stopped to have a cocktail and was disappointed to see how they’d changed the bar and opened it up to the restaurant Mercadito Fish. It looked so different. That being said, we thought the menu looked okay and ordered dinner – fish tacos, a grilled romaine salad and fish and chips. The tacos were under cooked and sloppy, falling apart and impossible to eat without a knife and fork. The worst was the fish and chips. Huge, overly battered cod and large steak fries (not what I call chips). Average wait staff. Overall. Disappointing.
They try, but really bad. This restaurant has a beautiful outdoor alfresco dining and is right next to where we live, so it’s convenient — unfortunately, one of the worst meals I continue to have and extremely overpriced. We dined there a few times when it was the old Little Market brasserie restaurant and we couldn’t get a good meal there. When this Mercadito Fish opened under the same owners, we decided to try it. I ordered the soft shell crabs and they were the worst I’ve ever tasted. It came out in this hard, dark heavy, heavy fried dough batter and was so untasty. The corn on the cob side dish was also covered in this really untasty, heavy cream sauce and ruined the taste of the corn. The waiter saw that I didn’t eat hardly any of the soft shell crab so he was nice enough to take it right back. I looked at the menu and thought the simpler, the better here. Well, they couldn’t even get that right. I ordered a hamburger thinking it was safe because it’s a simple burger. I ordered it medium done. When it came out, the waiter asked me to check to see if it was done okay. I cut into it and it was rare. So, back it went. I’ve never tasted a saltier burger. I don’t think they’ll be in business for a long period of time. After giving it a few tries, both the old and new, these owners might need to change the chef, menu or something. Unfortunately, such a nice location. I don’t think they will be in business for long. We don’t ever get out of there for the two of us under $200, and I would gladly spend the money, but just can’t get a decent meal there.

Can’t help but feel that the staff are high pressure and hunting tips. Food is good- but the serving experience is overly intrusive.
Very bad service. Very disorganized. Skimpy portions of meat. Food just OK.
