LOVE this place! There are two things I could eat every day for the rest of my life: pizza and mexican food. With that being said I would consider myself a mexican-food connoisseur of sorts. With several different options for margaritas, guacamoles, salsas, tacos, and more this place is like heaven to me! Everything is delicious. I have never had a bad experience at Mercadito! I’ve come with parties as small as 2 and as large as 30, and each time was a memorable experience. They handle large groups with ease by providing a group menu – those tacos may look small but I assure you, you’ll leave STUFFED. I love that they serve 3 different types of guacamole to try, multiple ceviches, and some different tacos like mushroom. I’m never hungry enough for dessert by the time that rolls around but I’ve always eaten and enjoyed it. Please order a cucumber margarita. Don’t think. Just do.
Fantastic ambience and really good cucumber Margarita! The toasted cumin rim was oh so savory and reminded me of Indian ‘chaat’! The ceviche trio had hits and misses and the tacos though beautifully presented lacked soul (read spice). What’s better than a tapas place? A Mexican tapas place, that’s what. Mercadito is one of my safe bets when people visit from out of town because the food is SO CONSISTENTLY good. Definitely a bit pricey considering it isn’t a terribly upscale place and you’ll need to spend more than you usually would on tacos just to be full.This is one of the few restaurants in the world that I’ve eaten at where I’ve craved the food after leaving. I always crave Mercadito’s mahi mahi tacos, because they are the best tacos I’ve ever eaten. Simply the best fish tacos in Chicago. bigcityblonde.com
Great cocktails! The food is good too, but this is a small-plates, bring money kinda place. Very cool atmosphere though so I recommend stopping in just to check it out and have a drink. cheapwinefinder.com
