  Awesome!!! With our group of 6 no one was disappointed!!! Great food, great prices and quick service!!! Burgers were great!! Cooked perfectly and yummy. Shakes were awesome! So thick it took a little patience to get it through the straw!!! De-lish!! Definitely on our list for a return visit!!!

  I will have a number one with cheese. They are great! I ate there regularly in the early eighties, when a number one with cheese was two bucks. Thirty years later is still the best deal around in Chicago. My family always eats at Mister J’s when we are in town

  UPDATED 12/9/13 Great Fries & Shakes NO MORE. LET’S JUST SAY THIS… UPON ENTERING MR. J’S I ORDERED MY USUAL AND WAS TOLD THEY NO LONGER SERVE SHAKES. THE FOOD WAS SO DISAPPOINTING… THE FRIES WERE AVERAGE AT BEST & THE TOTAL LACK OF SHAKES I BELIEVE IS THE REASON THE 4 GUYS BEHIND THE COUNTER OUTNUMBERED THE CLIENTS. (MY GIRLFRIEND, HER MOTHER & ME) AFTER 24 YEARS OF NEVER BEING HAVING A BAD MEAL HERE IT IS ALL OVER. I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!!!***PLEASE DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS UNABASHED POSITIVE REVIEW***Mr. J’s doesn’t look much different from the usual Dog & Burger joint in Chicago. And for the most part they are pretty standard fair of the classics. Where Mr. J’s separates from the herd is with shakes so thick you can barely get them through the straw & the best thick fries. Let me break down the shakes first. It takes the sucking power of a Hoover to get out one of these bad boy shakes but is it well worth it. I believe there are only 2 flavors Chocolate & Vanilla. It is pure frozen goodness with none of the marshmallow flavoring or textures found in those sold by the Golden Arches. It melts down to a liquid constancy of sweetened milk. That is if you even let it melt that far. Don’t take my glowing report of the shakes to mean they are ice cream parlor good but out of a frozen shake machine they are some of the best. Secondly, the fries! Amazing is where they start. These are thick square cut fries from a frozen bag but the crispness of the exterior with the creamy mash potato center is phenomenal. These are not crinkle-cut but most closely related Wendy’s fries except not wilted, dry and greasy. Also, none of the nubs you find in other fries. They complement anything you want to eat from the Dogs to Burgers to Italian Beef or Chicken sandwich. Finally, for local college kids they get a discount beyond the already low prices. I spent many a night in college downing one of many inexpensive burgers fries and shakes. The one down side is if you are a fan of Coke products they only sell Pepsi. But why order a soda you can get anywhere when a glorious shake comes with the meal for the same price.***PLEASE DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS UNABASHED POSITIVE REVIEW***
