We ate here almost everyday we were in Chicago. Great variety, awesome food, from the dogs, beef sandwiches, ribs, salads, shakes and custard desserts. They have a chocolate cake shake, that is literally a chocolate cake with frosting dropped that we think they just pour the shake over the cake slice! Amazingly so good! Some staff might just be tired from the crowds, but most are really friendly.

Stopped by around lunchtime and enjoyed a refreshing bottle of Sauvignon Blanc at one of the tables outside on the curbside. Loved the atmosphere at this place made even more fun by the fact that they allow dogs in this area, and there were plenty during our visit. We added a few nibbles to eat and loved that our waiter did not pressure us to order additional items or to try and turn our table so we felt very welcomed and relaxed. nofixedabodeforsue.com

Just missed. Pasta was excellent but not exceptional, dry aged rib eye meat was disappointing, apps were excellent (meatballs & liver), really good service. facebook.com

Extraordinary Fish and meat… The pasta was ok, so was the salad but the atmosphere is a plus. The cocktails were nice and refined but then comes the bill… Woohoohooo. Hope you’re ready for it!!!

Nico Osteria is the youngest restaurant on the list. Its also the most expensive, but worth every penny. Everyone I know whos been there loves it. The space is beautiful featuring a long crowded bar its a cool vibe with front row seats facing the open and frantically busy kitchen. During my visits, the service was spot-on and, most importantly, the food was outstanding and super inventive. The vast menu is broken down into sections crudo (sashimi style fish), fettunta (toasted bread with toppings), antipastsi, pasta, fresh fish and large plates, which are a combination of fish and meat dishes. They also have some great vegetable side dishes. Highlights include the bigeye tuna crudo with foie gras pastrami, stuffed pappardelle with milk braised pork and black truffle, salt crusted whole branzino, grilled asparagus with almond crema and the pan roasted wild turbot. Dont let the amount of choices overwhelm you – you cant miss. thebreadandbuddha.com

Nico Osteria is perfection.Impressive service, beautiful space, great wine, and FANTASTIC food. The menu is continually changing so it’s hard to recommend one specific dish, but rest assured it is nearly impossible to go wrong. Start with one of their bright, fresh Crudos – I’ve had the Scallops and they were the perfect start to the meal. The Fettunta is Nico Osteria’s version of bruschetta and theStracciatella with brussels sprouts, lemon honey, trufflebert hazelnuts was so ridiculously good that I would go back and sit at the bar all by myself for another order. The Antipasti are as beautiful and interesting as they are delicious and again, it’s hard to go wrong. The Warm Beef Carpaccio with pomegranate, black trumpet mushroom, and parmigiano was a favorite, but I’ve also tried Pork Loin al’Tonnato with truffled peach olive, apple, gulf shrimp and that was very good as well. The pastas are continually changing and you definitely have to try at least one – they’re made in house and always worth a carb binge. The Lobster Spaghetti is a mainstay and although it is pricey it is absolutely worth it – you’ll see this going out to table after table and become green with envy. The Chicken Saltimbocca, while very good, was probably the least exciting dish I’ve eaten there. I’ve heard the Branzino is very popular so I’ll have to try that when I return.Their dessert menu is one of the most robust that I’ve seen and everything sounds so good that it’s hard to choose. The Tiramisu was amazing, if you like Tiramisu I definitely recommend giving Nico’s iteration a try.As for the service, everyone we interacted with was incredibly helpful and considerate. I ate with a friend who has a gluten allergy and our waiter took quite a bit of time going over the menu for her. Many of the dishes on the menu are gluten-free on their own however some have sneaky gluten like the Short Rib that is dusted with flour. Our server knew all the ins and outs and was able to give recommendations and offer alterations to accommodate my friend.Nico Osteria is perfect for any number of occasions, I know I’ll be back again and again. lionandmaven.com
