I don’t usually give 5 dots to a sports bar and grill, but this place was different. Terrific beer selection, both on tap or bottles and cans. Very enjoyable music in the background. The fish tacos were very good. The Thursday special, crab cakes, were excellent. They also came with a salad that had apple slices and a sweet dressing. Then there was the dessert of a chocolate cake shake. Beer inside and sprinkles frozen on the side of the glass. See photo. Our server, Deliah, was very friendly and provided very good service.
On my way from STL to ATL in the ice storm of Feb 2014. Layover at Midway with just enough time for a sit-down lunch. At Harry Caray’s I had the best salad (chopped BLT) I’ve had in ages. Everything was fresh, lettuce was crisp, bacon was cruncy, just enough dressing & blue cheese–NOT too much as is usually the case. Topping it all off were delicious tiny, thin fried onion rings.Service was friendly and quick. I sat at the counter in front on the end so plenty of room for my bags with struggling between tablesIt’s in the Food Triangle.Go there. You’ll be pleased.
Enjoyed our meal here. The pulled chicken salad was very tasty, it sounds sweet on the menu but has a good balance of sweet and savory. The grilled halibut sandwich was very good. Fish was perfectly cooked, very tender and tasty. The Asian slaw added a nice kick to the sandwich. The Wagyu brisket French Dip was presented as very popular but my cousin was not impressed. Was light on the meat and a lot more fat than was enjoyable. May be partly do to the characteristics of Wagyu Beef. Good selection of beer, would return to this pub.
This month we went to Public House for brunch. They spoiled us by letting us try mini versions of everything on the menu! Public House is a very popular happy hour place located just over the Chicago River in River North at 400 North State Street. They are known for being a beer bar, and they have taps at their booths. I had always considered Public House a brunch place, but I was happy to discover they have a great brunch menu with a good mix of savory and sweet items.I must have had a sweet tooth that morning because my favorites were the Cinnamon Sticky Bun and the Doughnut Fried French Toast. Public House knew who they were dealing with when the invited CFB over, and they very wisely had each menu item set up for photography and then had mini versions of each dish for taste testing. It was a fun time, and it is perfect for people like me who can never decide what to order and who want to try everything.Public House is a fun place to go with a group, and the staff was very accommodating. I am glad that I learned that Public House does much more than happy hour.Thank you to my friends at Chicago Food Bloggers for hosting these incredible events. Cool Bar. Came to have a few drinks with a group, very cool bar. Drinks are pricey (but you know, Chicago…). Cool place to drop in.
We ate here on our last night in Chicago, a Friday night. We started with the house made pretzel and cheese dip then moved onto the mac and cheese with chorizo and sauted onions. Both were hits! My wife and I both had sandwiches, me a bacon cheeseburger with garlic Parmesan fries, and her, a chicken burger with regular fries. While mine was spot on, she said her bird was a bit dry and needed something else to make the sandwich.Overall, we can give the food a solid B, but the service, an A+. Our server checked on us constantly, and a busser was always coming around to make sure unneeded dishes were out of the way. With sidewalk eating out front, the high noise levels inside were drown out by the bustling city streets of Chicago. It was perfect!Great for people watching, good food, and good drinks, we would definitely return again.
Rude staff, not welcoming at all. The good news is that there are lots of great restaurants and pubs nearby that will be happy to serve you.
