Sullivan’s is a favorite steakhouse of mine. They set themselves apart from all the other steakhouses by offering a jazz age feel of the 20s and 30s. They back this up by offering jazz in the bar on a nightly basis for free. Their happy hour specials are one of the best in all of Chicago on Thursday nights. They offer $7.00 drinks from a select menu of top shelf beverages and the same $7.00 food items that are very filling and quite delicious. They extend this happy hour special to service industry folks all day on Sundays. The nightly happy hour menu is slightly more, but relatively speaking, still a good deal. As far as their main menu, you get your traditional American steakhouse fare at Chicagoland prices. I still enjoy their atmosphere the most out of all of the steakhouses though.
On par with Morton’s, Gibson’s and others, Sully’s is a great place to pop in and have a great cocktail. I recommend the Manhattan (pictured, right before I tied the cherry stem with my tongue – an old bar trick). Awesome steaks of course! cheapwinefinder.com
Windy City Blogger’s Collective hosted a dinner for bloggers at Sullivan’s Steakhouse in Chicago and I was lucky enough to get to attend.Sullivan’s wants to let folks know about their new menu for Spring and Summer that rolled out on May 20th. Boy are you in for a treat if you go.The entire event was such fun and not your typical promotional event. Why? Well because we not only got to explore the food via a meal, but they also gave us a mixology lesson, a wine pairing lesson, and a cooking demonstration. It was not only a great way to tour the restaurant, but also meet some of their staff.Made our mouths water for the dinner to come too.Our dinner was held in the private dining area on the second floor of the restaurant. In addition to the private dining space on the second floor that we were in, they also had a second large space with a large bar as well and there was a meeting of some sort in there that same evening. So a great place to hold a special event. The highlights of the evening were the house Cabernet Sauvignon, the Cheesesteak egg rolls, ribeye, gorgonzola garlic sauce, and Summer Rose cocktail. You can read my full review, get the recipe for the Summer Rose Cocktail, and enter to win a free appetizer by going to my site at:sailawaygirlcooks.com/2015/05/27/sullivans-steakhouse-chicago/
Ahi Tuna Nachos. Delish!12 Jan, 2015We went to the bar on a Thursday night. The drinks and apps were on special for $7 it was a bargain. And the ahi tuna nachos were awesome!
Singing Hostess and 80’s rock. The food was fine. French onion soup had wayyy too much cheese so was quite oily. the steak was well prepared, but put atop the mashed potatoes rendering the potatoes soggy and unappealing. Server was pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was worthy of an expensive restaurant and the wine list was full. Upon entering there was a Jazz trio playing, they take a break and 80’s rock starts blaring. Completely ruined the tone of the meal. If I wanted a beer sports bar, would have gone there. Prior to the music switch the hostess, who struggled with tone sang her way about the dining room and sang with flat volume from the prep area.I don’t get to eat $100 meals for myself often; and I wasted the opportunity here.
Average….. I hit Sullivan’s in Indy probably 4-6 times a year. The food and overall execution of the dining experience is much better there. Here, I found it to be just average…..my steak was good but nothing was memorable about the rest of the experience and overall I was disappointed. Too expensive to only get good steak and nothing else.
What more can you ask for… The service was great..very attentive servers and bartenders. The manager even stopped by the ask how our evening was and if he could accommodate anything. . We happened to go on a Thursday night when they do 6$ martinis, and $6 appetizers. The drinks were very good..I suggest the trying the ‘Red Over Heels’. The steak, shrimp, and veggie pizza were great as well. Very fun atmosphere.. live music every night.
